Thoughts on WF toupee baseball field?

What do you think of Wake’s synthetic baseball field? Wake isn’t the only one who has entire “fake” field. They are becoming popular. Lower budget smaller schools and high schools are going to artificial route.
In my opinion it’s taking some parts of the game away. Grass and dirt can affect the ball and play.
Sure the grounds crew are sitting there bored senseless and the laundry bill is probably minimal but I hate a turf baseball field. It wouldn’t be so bad if the infield and outfield grass was turf with real dirt on the infield, but having the ENTIRE field is going overboard.
I can see where in the northern part of the country artificial grass would be more beneficial because it’s harder to maintain because of the cooler temperature. But dirt won’t be.
What did everyone think of Wake’s field this past weekend?

Those synthetic turf playing surfaces have nearly as much up-keep as a natural grass field plus they have to be completely replaced about every ten years.
Michigan State conducted an in depth and detailed comparison on the two a couple of years ago and it supported that the synthetic turf fields are actually more costly to install and maintain.

at a disadvantage playing on a grass / dirt field. They will be so used to that "true" hop on the infield and outfield that they will misplay those erratic hops on imperfect natural fields. Kind of like hitters guessing, and guessing wrong.
Now, that was all pure BS, but it sounded plausible, din't it?

I prefer grass and dirt, it's baseball.

Dirt and grass is the only way to go. A great grounds crew can tilt the game your way. Long grass , short grass and wetting down the base paths to slow runners down. Sloping baselines to help bunts, etc.

Didn’t care for the super light faux infield dirt(carpet). At least make it clay color. I don’t like artificial turf anyway. Something about the batters box looked real odd too. Like it was a section that could be pulled up and replaced when needed. Give me a dirt/ grass well manicured baseball field any day.

They should use robots or cameras for the home plate ump.
Real dirt, grass, and myopic plate umps are the charm that makes baseball. Ditch the pagers and go back to signs between the coaches and players.
