Anecdotally - federal employees are being treated like poop.

SonOfCousinOf has a Fed Govt job and was working remotely, but had to start working in the office fulltime this week. They've also just been told - "More cuts are coming at the end of April".
So - he has to pack up and move to a new town (while signing extended lease agreements) for a job he may not have next month.
They should do the cuts, then implement work-in-office. Lot's o' stress being doled out needlessly.
I feel bad for him - he really takes the "civil servant" part of the job to heart.

It sucks, but when you ignore a cancer for so long, the cure is much more painful.

Yes - folks get laid-off all the time. But this isn't bad timing. Do the cuts

first, then implement work-in-office. Making people move first is just jerking them around for no reason.

And also seems like the cruelty, including in your story, is intentional.

It's part of the process.
" the cruelty, including in your story, is intentional."
There is a video of one of the head dudes behind Project 2025 stating they WANT federal employees to dread going into work

Definitely. Make it miserable, undesirable, and degrading

As with almost everything with the Trump admin, the cruelty is the point.

How can you take this whole exercise seriously without considering the pentagon budget which is almost half of discretionary spending? They have failed, what, the last 7 audits?
This admin and co-president musk are plan corrupt, idiots that should be allowed no where near a government leadership role.

They have failed every full audit (which is 6 or maybe 7 including this year). A lot of it does go straight into the economy, though.

Why? Because they were too busy going after consumer protection and watchdogs investigating musk.
You are too consumed with tribalism to really care about anything else, that's obvious.

What people don't understand is your labor pool in WFH vs in office.

When your company is WFH, you get the best from anywhere. When you're in office, you get the best from the driving distance labor pool.
And yes I understand some jobs can't be WFH.

Some people still get to work from home. Kash Patel is working at least 50% from Las Vegas, from his millionaire friend's house. It's work from home, but not his home.

LOLutz. People who are seeking out WFH are typically underperformers who are often running errands, walking their dog, going to the gym, etc. while 'working.'
There is a reason corporate America is mandated a RTO.

That a big generalization. A lot depends on the nature of the work.

In my experience, a hybrid type office / home schedule could be beneficial for employees and companies.

When covid hit, we didn't miss a beat. I get almost 2 extra hours of work each day just not having to commute. I eat lunch at my desk at home most days. I can work nights easily, and weekends when necessary.

The multiple times between 1998 and 2008, the company I worked for reorganized and downsized, a relocation was a good sign because you still had a job. Ask if his relocation costs are being paid for or reimbursed. If the relocation is not paid for, then I would be resigning. If the relocation is paid for, then why would they pay for it and cut the job?

Shitzenpants, Elon, and the Incels don't care about saving money, so it doesn't make a difference if one option costs more than the other. They are breaking the government, so that it can't constrain Elon and his bro's or investigate Trump and his ho's.
