We hear nothing about the assassin afterwards. Barely a mention of his life or his motives.
Trump doesn't have any evidence of a 5.56 round wound on his ear, which should have been far more significant.
The Secret Service isn't letting him get back up and do a fist pump to the crowd and risk getting shot again. They're pinning him down and dragging him out.

Most of that was to get a rise out of Keowee with a taste of his own BS.
But this can't be ignored:
-Trump's ear healed too quickly and shows no damage after taking a 5.56 round. Doesn't make much sense.
-The Secret Service did not handle that like they do other attempted assassinations.
-We have heard little about the killer or his motives when past assassins have had their whole life history laid out before us. We learned more about Dylan Roof than we did this guy.
So... there are questions.

It's definitely a conspiracy theory that's floating around out there, which I give 0 credence to. Like most of these things, too many people involved to fit reality.
I think it's more likely incompetence mixed with Trump milking a slight graze (or possibly a piece of glass) for everything it's worth.

I don’t think it was staged. I think more than likely a piece of glass or small piece of shrapnel hit the ear. Doesn’t change the fact that it was an attempt on his life tho.
