VERY close attention to this......you're being lied to. But that's not the worst part. the EXTENT to which you're being lied to is enormous. A TRADE DEFICIT (for the US) is a GOOD THING. A VERY GOOD THING. You have no clue how good a thing it really is either, especially since 40% of Americans have never left the country. Even inside our country though, where we freely trade among our 50 states, we all know and see the differences between a salary, a dollar, a wage in California versus a dollar, a wage, a salary in Mississippi. We KNOW the difference. We watched it happen during covid, Californians flocked to Texas, SC, Alabama, and cheaper states to leverage their income as they worked remotely. ####, my own wife takes advantage of this in her job.
Now this is key. Our trade deficit is measured in DOLLARS. AS SUCH....differences in currency and currency exchange rates ARE NOT FACTORED INTO THAT DEFICIT. A SINGLE DOLLAR buys different amounts of THINGS (labor) in California, versus Texas, versus Washington, DC, versus South Carolina, versus Mississippi.....right? WELL, that same ONE DOLLAR also buys different amounts of THINGS (LABOR) in Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, China, Japan, Australia, Germany, South Africa, Venezuela and Brazil.
One dollar in the US buys 42 TIMES MORE LABOR in Vietnam, than in the US. So when Vietnam ships $1 of goods (labor) to the US, they're shipping what WOULD BE $42 of OUR labor, in the United States. Now we import from all over the world, but one thing is consistent, with the exception of a very few countries, who we don't trade much with anyway for this exact same reason, the DOLLAR IS MULTIPLIED when exchanged for labor in a foreign country. No one could really feasibly calculate it, but if you average the dollar leveraging that our $1T trade deficit represents, or overall for our imports, that number is in reality MANY TRILLIONS MORE, if it was created with US labor and not foreign labor.
When we import $1 from Vietnam, we're importing $42 worth of US labor. When we import $1 from China, we import $4 in US labor value. When we import $1 from Brazil, $7. When we import $1 from India, we're importing $10 in American labor.
When I tell you that imports, and illegal immigrants (both dollar leveraging mechanisms) puts DEFLATIONARY pressure on the dollar (here in the US), this is what I'm talking about. And the best part is with this deflationary pressure, inflation can remain low, and debt can be issued cheaper. And that's MORE DOLLARS TO LEVERAGE. It is the debt part of the equation where we have been imprudent, as an economy, as a people, and as a governemnt. Because this system is only as good as the moderation and pragmatism of those running it. When I say the American EMPIRE controls more labor on this planet than any other previous empire, this is how and why I say that.
If you want Trump, then you want a lower standard of living, an economic collapse, lost freedoms, and more poverty. America's strength is going to decline, and other countries KNOW everything I typed above. And China knows this, everyone knows this. If we decline, this system we've created, will continue, to someone else's advantage, and to our detriment. May be China, may be Germany, may be the EU, may be India? Who knows, but the world knows what we do, how we do it, and they've prospered right along with the US. The more you trade with the US the higher your living standards increase. China, used to be third world. Mexico, used to be third world. Neither are anymore, because they traded with us. And as we speak, China is investing heavily in Africa to exploit their cheaper labor, playing OUR SAME GAME, on a new ball field.

That's an awesome point...but also kind of a futile one. You can use whatever keen and rational arguments you want...but MAGA is not a rational movement.
It's an angry and fearful losers' movement...or I should say, about 99% of them are angry and fearful losers. There is that last and vital 1% - you know, the 1% - that recognizes what a pack of tribal chumps the MAGA's are, and how pathetically easy they are to manipulate. Just give them something to hate, and off they go, baying and snarling like a pack of hounds.
But rationality? An actual agenda, ideology, values? Even simple self-interest? I haven't seen it from any of them yet, and we've been dealing with this sh!t for a decade now. I mean, these guys speak pretty much entirely in Whatabouts and personal attacks...which should have told us everything, but we kept acting like we have some chance of talking them back around.
I gave up that fairly ridiculous notion awhile back. If you're going to appeal to someone's better nature, they first have to have one to appeal to. I mean...look around this board. Who you going to convince? NJDEV? Bill? Either of the NC's? CharlestonTom? Crass?
Good luck with that.
