APM officially lived in the far southwest tip of Gwinnett County. Off of Winter's Chapel. Near Dunwoody.
But we were arguably either officially a Doraville address or an ATL address. Our mail just came to us as "Atlanta."

A lot of folks have no idea that Raleigh was ground zero for the alt-country movement...so many great bands that came out of there. It's as much a music mecca as Athens was for New Wave in the 80s or Seattle for Grunge in the 90s. Brad Rice, one of my old Clemson acquaintances played with Whiskeytown for a while. I honestly thought his band The Backsliders should have blown up much bigger than they ever did. I haven't seen Brad since I left Clemson, but his list of credits to date is nothing short of amazing. He even played some guitar on a couple of Ray Wylie Hubbard records, which of course makes him a legend in my mind.

Ground zero?

I always think of the Midwest as ground zero, with the Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo etc. Even stretching the genre, Jason and the Scorchers were from Nashville. I’d argue a lot of DnC’s catalog probably qualifies well as alt country too, but they’re so eclectic that no one ever pigeonholed them there.

truly was one of the Meccas for the genre, especially if you get inclusive of the entire Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. North Carolina as a whole was always strong for the alt-country movement, and really continues to be. These bands aren't getting Rolling Stone covers but they're still there, still active, and folks like American Aquarium, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers, and Southern Culture on the Skids have a great record of selling out shows all over the country even now. I guess in short...my point is that Raleigh was always one of the great incubators of the movement and continues to be.
