I think FSU got duped.

it is all about expanding your TV Market to get the largest contact possible. This was the strategy behind bringing in Miami Syracuse and BC, it gave us Boston, New York and Miami for increased exposure and ad revenue, but all 3 have shat the bed on the field and the aforementioned cities have pro teams and bandwagon fans. If the Hurricanes would have pulled their weight on the national stage, or Matt Ryan played for BC indefinitely, things could have turned out differently for us. Miami can potentially have the largest fan base in America or the smallest, it just depends on how well they compete nationally. But then again, the Big Ten would have just poached them had they ever made it to the playoffs even once in the last 8 years.

There's nothing wrong with the model

It will take management, yes. These are not 'our' conferences...the new constructs represent how folks view sports...and that's not in a geographical fashion. Neither is it wholly tied to traditional match-ups. It's tied to viewing hours and who's watching from where.

The whole travel issue is overblown, too. We're not driving...nor using horse and buggy. What's another hour on a plane? There isn't a current conference that has members any farther from Clemson than fellow ACC squads...not a one...just not as many in some cases. So be it...even within those conferences, there may be one match-up annually that exceeds what is currently experienced.

If you want to run with the...err, Tigers, open your minds and consider the possibilities. I don't recall hearing many complaints about playing in the Fiesta Bowl during the Natty years. I do recall gripes about playing SC State and Troy and even conference foes. There's too much money spent for a ticket to attend a game that has a forgone result. That's not competition, nor fun for anyone.
