Four straight 10 and 11 win seasons, Conference title, bowl wins over LSU, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, just drivel. These are people's lives that are being affected here. Individual rights are affected.

They said they regret that it is controversial and may be divisive to the Clemson family of alumni, fans, students and friends throughout the state and country. There are lines they can uphold regarding employees and lines they can not infringe on regarding employees. They did not say which category this scenario falls under.

fundraiser and say, "but I am not raising money for them", or "I am not for them", the damage has been done. Or how about the same for the KKK, the damage has been done. The sad thing is Dabo spoke more eloquently than any other coach last year on the issue of the Missouri player. This appearance really brings about a lot of bad headlines across the country for Clemson. He also might as well be making public his political party, all of which is not in the best interest of a public figure that has to appeal to both parties for recruits, fans and support.

I respect that you don't agree with what this group stands for or with Dabo accepting the award. But I believe the freedom to think and express yourself, even if it is against the modern media and world, is paramount to a free and healthy society. If not we are already living in Orwell's 1984 where society/government/media is more free to act than the individual in his own beliefs.
Our country was supposed to have a multiplicity of opposing viewpoints that created checks and balances and was to make us stronger as a society. Why is traditional Christian religion such a problem in this system for so many liberals? They have their viewpoint and Christians have there viewpoint. Checks = balance.

calling for any of that. You live your life and I live mine. I might not like your lifestyle or beliefs and you might not like mine but we civilly live peacefully in the same American society where you are free to do and think and I am free to do and think. Period. Christian law is bound to the new wine of Jesus not the old law of the Old Testament and is an individual thing not enforced by laws set by government here in America as it is in the Middle East. If is very different from eye for an eye and Islam and Sharia.
Dabo is getting an award from a group who thinks differently than what you think. But that is o'kay. It is America and we are all supposed to be individuals and not lumped together and think and believe like sheep all the same things.
This is a tempest about nothing. Football season is coming and all of this is because there is nothing left to talk about. If you are from small town USA you would understand all of this just seems blown up and hyper in its concern for what Dabo does.

Palmetto Family Council does not want gays to be free to do and think. They want their freedom to be limited in many ways. I am originally from a small town in South Carolina. If Dabo were just average Joe, fine, go and get the award. But Dabo represents Clemson, its students, graduates, fans. At least that is what he says when he collects his $3 million check from the public university. If not for the Supreme Court groups like the Palmetto Family Council would still be wreaking havoc on individual freedom in South Carolina. As you say, "free to do and think". One group's goal is to limit that on a daily basis and that is the Palmetto Family Council.

This is such BS. In our political correct world, a man is expected to compromise his values because it goes against the left wing liberals in our society. We ought to all support an individual willing to stand up for his beliefs. I doubt anyone would say anything if he was supporting a planned pregnancy/abortion clinic or a gay rights group. Not that it should be used to help recruiting, but I doubt many recruits(or recruits parents) are really strong supporters of homosexuals and abortionist.
I would dare say that many recruits are Democrats, but very few are full out liberals. They probably stick to dems from the social justice and wealth distribution side, but don't abandon the teachings of their churches.

Am I okay in that it makes me sort of resentful to several groups of people?
On one hand, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. All I know about this group is they made a book about treating animals nicely. No kidding.
Like a lot of evangelical groups, they probably hate/fear a lot of people and express it here and there, but it doesn't seem like they're the Klan or something.
And it doesn't seem that Dabo is going to give some speech at a rally about crucifying gay people when his butt should be at work. He's going to get a certificate or trophy or something that's about something that's probably benign, and he's probably picking it up on his own time.
On the other hand, no, I am not keen on Dabo's evangelism at work. I can clearly see how it would make players of different faiths (or no faith) feel ostracized or open the door to impropriety. I wish he'd keep it out of the workplace, but he won't, and he knows how to tiptoe around the Constitution so it's all good. Plus he seems to recruit and retain pretty well, so stay the course.
I also wish he'd vet people who want to have him appear in public- he does represent a public university, even off the clock, so popping up every time some group says, "Hey Christian brother. . .c'mere!" might not be a great idea. Maybe after this he will consider things a little better.
And no, his "free speech" is NOT being violated. That's the dumbest thing I've read on here.

Oddly Dabo works for a university and academia is one of the last bastions of free-thinking and free-thought.
I'm sure there are faculty members who are Communist and Socialist thinkers on campus. I'm sure there are atheists and agnostics on campus. There are people of different religions.
Guess what - they have freedom to think and speak however they wish - as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

Gotta give the Dem SC legislator credit for a shrewd plan to weaken his alma mater's rival. What he's attempting to do is put enough pressure on Dabo where he feels he has to decide between the tenets of his faith and his position as Head Coach of the nation's fastest rising football program and Coot Killer. Knowing Dabo, his faith will come first. I suspect others feel that way as well.
They all see how the tide has returned to normal, and coots are staring at yet another generation of being owned in football. What better way to try and cause harm to us than a non-issue political stirring and drum beating that has absolutely nothing to do with LGBT rights and everything to do with being further embarrassed for the next few decades on the football field.
What? The legislator has his name in national news now? Isn't he something.
