I’m partial to Weber Grills/smoker. Not a fan of anything pellet. Don’t feel you get as good of a smoke. But mostly I like to tinker and babysit my smoke. Gives me a reason to spend the day outside enjoying my time while cooking.

I had a Primo and loved it. Movers broke it and I got a Rec tec. It’s a great grill, practically a EX Bake oven. Wife can use it as well, something that wasn’t happening with the Primo. It cooks very good. With that being said I miss my ceramic grill and lump charcoal. I will probably get another Kamoda Joe/BGE/Primo. They are all basically interchangeable for what I have seen.

Rec Tec, made in Augusta GA, best pellet smoker on the market, trust me, and not even close. If you do a comparison, you’ll see the difference.

If you want a pellet grill RecTeq is the way to go. I had a Traeger for 10+yrs and switched.
The only thing I dont like is they took away the ability to start it up with your phone. I am willing to bet some dummy didnt think, started his grill with the cover on and burnt down his house.

This^^^^. Did the wood cook for a bit but I had a family and things to tend to.
I have a simple Camp Chef pellet smoker and my meat turns out wonderful.
The app to control temp is amazing. I go work out / control the temp. A concert / control the temp etc etc.
By the way - if you have never smoked scallops you are missing out!

I'm not going out in the cold to see the name on my grill but, it's a cast iron grill with a cast iron door in front with a handle to turn that will lift the coals up or down. It's IMO the best grill I've ever used and it's over 10 years old and I purchased it from Lowe's...

I've never met someone with a Recteq smoker that didn't think it was the best overall pellet smoker built.
But the selling point for Recteq is the customer service. The CEO himself gives you his personal cell phone number and business card with every grill order.
I ordered a Recteq "bull" in 2020 and this is by far the best grill I've ever had. It's been 5 years and it's like this thing is brand new. I've had to call customer service once about my probes going out around a year after receiving the grill and before I could even finish telling them the issue, they already had two new probes on the way for free. Amazing customer service!

I own a Recteq 590 which has been replaced by the Deck Boss. For the money Recteq is the best pellet cooker you can buy. Someone mentioned versatility it truly is. I have used mine for smoking and baking.
I have hot smoked salmon at 180, smoked ribs both beef and pork. Smoked brisket, butts, hams and chicken. You can crank it up to 500 or so for a nice bark to finish them off if you if you please.
I have used it to bake turkeys in a browning bag, baked dressing, baked macaroni pie and potatoes. I have not used it to bake a cake yet. So you see it can be used for just about anything. I still use my Weber for steaks and burgers.

I have an old New Braunfels offset smoker that I found on Craiglist years ago and redid. That thing is solid, I don't think they make them anymore. It's more work than a pellet smoker but it does a great job.

Big Green egg is the best if you like to smoke meat and have the time. I’ve had one for several and love it. By far best smoker out there. Recteq is the best pellet grill. Great for quick cooks during the week. I use mine 3-4 times a week after work. As others have stated great customer service. Follow them on Facebook or inteafe and wait for their scratch and dent sale to get some good deals

I got a Pitt Boss on sale from Walmart that ended up getting damaged, pulled the dents out and ended up spending 150 bucks. I have an acorn that I like but the Pitt boss is so easy, if you keep it clean it does great. Not sure on the higher end pellet grills but I just don’t see them being that much better.

We have the portable kitchen on rollers by Weber with auto lite for regular charcoal which is easiest to use. We also have a Green Egg which does a great job and uses lump charcoal but is not as easy to use. Both are good and get nice results but the Green Egg, IMHO, is way over priced for the results you get.

So obviously everyone is going to tell you what they have is the best because that's what we do. I'll try to give some advice based on w g at I've had and what the guy I work with has had. (He's had almost every smoker out there)
There are plenty of good smokers out there. I'll say that first. What the difference is oftentimes until you get upward of 1200$ or so is build quality, features, high temperatures, and customer service. Or a combo of all three.
1. Camp Chef- tons of features for the price (sub 1000), mediocre build quality, not bottom level not top level, decent customer service.
2. Pit Boss- absolutely garbage, throw away bottom level smokers after a few years. Not made to last at all. Issues with temp control. Upper levels do seem to be better, they just aren't worth it to me when there's better options at that price point.
3. Traeger- (the "Yeti" of smokers). First to market, have a rabid cult fan base that's really founded in the sticker on their truck, and the smokers work good and are generally a good product, but still living off of that first to market name. Better bang for buck out there.
4. Egg styles. Big green/primos/kamado- great smokers, hold temp fantastic, better flavor, last a good long while, just expensive for what it is. But nothing at all wrong with getting one if you don't want apps and remote monitoring type smoking (there's boards for that too if you want them)
5. Offset-way harder learning curve, but produces the best flavor hands down. PITA as far as babysitting on the smaller ones. Big trailered ones are easier but burn tons of fuel. For a backyard if you're a fiddler and love learning, and always striving for perfection, maybe it's for you. I had an Oklahoma Joes Highland (older one) and it was a good smoker. I'd probably go Old Country Pecos or something if I did it again.
5.Masterbuilt Gravity series-great flavor, easier cooking than offset and probably egg, but build quality and especially customer service are the drawbacks. If you're looking for cheaper than 800-1000, I'd go egg or masterbuilt IMO.
6. Recteq- IMO, seems like a cult, until you get your hands on one and instantly you get it. Build quality FOR PRICEPOINT, second to none. If you want the Sherman tank of pellet smokers, the 2000 Toyota Tacoma of smokers, no possibly gimmicky frills as a selling point, but just want something you don't have to babysit and will work for years, longest warranty I know of and best customer service by far, the Recteq is my recommendation. I'd recommend 590 or 700 or up though. Bullseye is cool but has had a few issues. Hope this helps. Anymore questions just ask. There's actually tons of experience behind what I'm saying instead of just hearsay, so if anyone wants me to elaborate I can.

Yep, my Kamado Joe used with a Flame Boss gives me the ability to get a fire started quickly and monitor from away from home. As long as I fill it with enough lump I can do very long low and slow cooks without the worry of the flame going out. Recteq are pretty sweet though, I just prefer the smoke flavor I can get out of my set up over the pellets. YMMV
I do still have a propane Weber grill I use for making burgers, steaks or chicken when I need something quick for a weekday night dinner though.

It's a 22" round charcoal grill with some butane to quickly like the charcoal / lumps. It is part of a table to so it's great to put you plates, beer, tongs, etc... on it. It's a lot cheaper than a gas grill and personally, I think charcoal is a lot better.

As far as pellet smokers go:
Traeger/Rec Tec are your Ford/Chevy
Pit Boss = Kia/Hyundai
Any of these brands can give you a great product that will last a long time, but you could also get one that doesn’t last too long.
The more expensive models from each of these Manufacturers will last longer than the cheaper ones.
Traeger and Rec Tec feel a lot higher quality than Pit Boss.

I have the Big Green Egg. I also have the Flame Boss temperature controller. The controller will control the temperature to within 1 degree of desired temperature. The Flame Boss is setup with your WiFi so you can be anywhere and monitor your cook. I cook briskets over night. I also cook pork butts to perfection. The green egg can also cook pizzas if you buy the accessory which is a round porcelain plate.

IF you go pellet grill don't buy the cheap Treager pellets. Last I looked it was alder wood (flavorless) treated with oils from the wood they are trying to mimic (cherry, oak, mequite).
Go for real wood, such as CookinPellets Perfect Mix Natural Hardwood

Asking what's the best grill is like asking a man what's the best wife. Everyone will just say well, my grill is the best of course.
My opinion is answer these questions and then find one that fits your answers.
What type of fuel do you prefer? charcoal, wood pellets, gas? Maybe you want a combo of fuels? Do you need it to be ready quickly because you use it impulsively like a stove top or do you plan ahead to grill? How many people are you feeding? Does it need to be mobile or do you just use it at home? Are you grilling, smoking or both? How much temperature control do you want it to have? Low (full blast for fast cooking steaks and burgers)? Medium control (cooking chicken and fish)? Precise (for low and slow cooking over 12 hours)? Do you want it to be automated with time controls or smartphone and Uncle Sam watching over your BBQ brisket? How long do you want it to last? 3 years, 5 years, 15 years? This greatly affects the price you will pay.
