How has no one ever fallen out of the upper deck ??

Nov 1, 2021, 5:11 PM

I sat on the 2nd row of TDN for the first time ...

4 drunk guys in front of me kept leaning over yelling, pretending to throw each other over ...

I really thought someone was going over ...

Those guard rails are a joke.

Playing with fire.

My cousin Ray-Ray fell.

He ended up being fine because he landed on some Ushers. No real risk there.

Good post and you are 100% correct. I have noticed that situation for years, and you would think it had been corrected by now. It's not a matter of if somebody will fall over, it is when.

years after I had sat in the upper deck at Willy B with a Coot friend of mine. I can say beyond ANY shadow of a doubt that our upper deck at least to my perception is MUCH steeper than the ones in The Roach. I had the feeling that if I stumbled on the stairs at all, I would never stop until I was in the middle of Frank Howard Field!

During my time as a Plant Chemical Engineer, there were times when I had to climb our tallest distillation column, which was tall enough that it had an airplane warning beacon on top of it. Being up there gave me just about the same queasy feeling that I had in our upper deck. Leave that stuff to the young'uns!

Lol, I have felt the same coming down the steps...

...in the upper deck. It seems an extreme angle and a little disconcerting at least to me.

Our upper deck is definitely steeper than the roach.
If you in the upper deck at willie b on a windy day, you can feel it moving. Kind of cool.

slogan about their upper decks was true.

"If it ain't swayin', we ain't playin'!"

Be it due to architecture or whatever, it does in fact sway. I felt it do so while I was there that time. Not exactly a feeling that engendered confidence in those who built it.

I thought that is what those ushers are for at each each portal. Keep idiots from hurting themselves and calling in the po po if they have to. Doing that should get you thrown out.

That one time when Enrico Pillazzo pretended to be an umpire and ended up shooting a dart which knocked out a woman, who fell from the upper deck on top of Reggie Jackson. I forget if she was okay.

Have sat in the upper deck a couple times, fortunately no higher than half way. The first time was concerned about falling out if I just leaned over. First time in a deck was the '74 Tennessee game. The stadium is built on a level lot so the deck is especially high. Took at least a half hour to feel reasonably comfortable prior to kickoff. Then the UT fans started stomping and the deck begin swaying a bit. Came very close to leaving.

My seats are on the first row, and I believe they are some of the best seats in the house. Overhead view, but also able to see the player’s numbers.
But then again, I don’t have a fear of heights (although some of my guests have)!

My family had seats on the sputh deck, front row when they were first built until 2013 when my dad passed away. My seats are 5 row up now. Great view.

Maybe on a day when there was no game- sure way to succeed at suicide.

Willie Brice upper decks used to sway during ball games. You used to be able to see the ground below the support spaces on the last row.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. Someone jumped off of their upper deck of Death Valley

Ad a suicide sometime in the 00s. It was at night during the midweek I think.

Honestly when I was at Clemson it was super easy to get into Death Valley and the field if you wanted to on weeknights

Not to be gruesome, but the article seems to state that the

body in question fell from an upper deck to the OUTSIDE of the stadium. That almost certainly had to be an intentional jump.

As opposed to an unintentional tumble to the lower deck inside the stadium.

Either way, that would be WAY down on my list of ways to do away with myself. Hopefully, neither I, nor anyone else ever starts seriously making that list.

Ever sat in the flight deck at Louisville?

Nov 1, 2021, 9:46 PM

It has to be worse. Most miserable I’ve ever been when we won a game.

Re: Ever sat in the flight deck at Louisville?

Nov 1, 2021, 10:24 PM

Louisville is steeper than Death Valley. I do remember that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow. If that is true, I NEVER want anything to do with it.

Nov 2, 2021, 9:00 AM

Ours is steep enough to be uncomfortable while finding your seat, and makes it totally acceptable to keep ye olde buttocks glued to it once you DO find your seat!

Nov 1, 2021, 9:50 PM

when I see someone stand up and walk on the seats on the first row - that puts them well above the rail if they fell towards the field.

I've sat in various spots from the front row all the way to the top row of both the north and south decks since 1978 and felt fine though I have no fear of heights.

After closer attention to the wording of the question I think the answer is either staying on the deck or not going up there in the first place.
