I don’t know how much of a difference it will make, but Dabo seems to like it. I’ll go with Dabo on this one. Go Tigers!!!

I’m in the same boat, really don’t know. On the surface it just seems like an additional avenue to funnel more $$ to players with no added accountability for what was previously going on.

But like you said, Dabo has seemed to like this idea for a good while now.

Good news for SuperLeague.

This is a big step toward the formation of the SuperLeague. P2 had to know what the settlement was before going much farther in implementing the SuperLeague. Now that they know what the parameters are work can proceed at a quicker pace.

Agreed, my concern is who will be included in the super league and how will it be governed

Shouldn’t it even the playing field for the power conference leagues. Puts kinda a cap on what that they can spend?

At least the amount that each school can spend is capped. The real question i hsve is how much they can use the separate NIL money. If it’s monitored then it’s not unlimited. But how do they the value a player has in the NIL vs what they are paid. This to me will be the key factor. As well as how it’s enforced.

It’s my understanding that the players will actually have do something to get the NIL money. It is supposed to be monitored for fair value. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Is the 20mil in addition to outside NIL funding...

and is this not a bridge created to give title IV legal standing to get its foot in the door/make a claim on the cash? The word cap seems to apply to the school's contribution to the payroll and doesn't specifically state that it also applies to the outside private NIL contribution amount.

Correct, but NIL is supposed to be monitored closely.

Does monitoring in any way mean limiting or policing? I highly doubt it. So now players get paid from school and can get NIL on top even if it is fully disclosed, it doesn't limit what they collect. Just will be more public knowledge like Pro contracts.

I think that I read in there somewhere that it said schools could buy the NIL from the players that could get some sort of NIL funding from an NIL deal...

Yeah, there are some that fear since FB & MBB make 93% of the revenue that an arms race in those two will eliminate many nonrevenue sports

Non revenue sports, women's, will continue as long as we have title IX. Schollie have to be spread equally....of course, some men's sports will disappear, if they haven't already, e.g. track, diving, etc

This is my concern. I'm conflicted in how to feel about this, because I think there could be some good and some bad. Right now, I'm very cautiously optimistic that it did get approved in time. I think it should be a good thing for football and basketball (as Dabo has pointed out), and a GREAT thing for baseball. That 11.7 crap was so stupid, and it hamstrung our program from the moment it was introduced. Now that the ridiculous artificial limitation is gone, that ought to really help our recruiting and level the playing field with private schools like Vandy who have effectively been cheating this system for years. There are some who say that the decline of Clemson baseball has roughly coincided with the introduction of the scholarship limit, and while I don't think that's the entirety of it, I do think it played a big part.

As y'all are pointing out, my big fear is for what will happen to the nonrevenue sports, especially the men's. Neff has stated that their goal is to fully fund everything, and he seemed reasonably confident that they could do so. I really hope that will happen. As the article indicated, there will probably be some level of additional protection for the women's sports because of title 9, so they may be more secure. But the men have no such luxury. That's the part that has always bugged me about this. If we're going to embrace the "every man for himself" philosophy, where each sport is responsible for generating its own revenue to ensure its survival and do what it wants with, why is it that the women's nonrev sports get artificially protected from this, but the men's don't? I know some people will claim overall equality, but I think it's absurd to lump all the other male sports in the same category with football when the difference between them is night and day.

They want to have their cake and eat it, too. It's all based on revenue generation so that everyone can get what they earn, until a group that isn't allowed to fail can't generate enough money, so that group then gets artificially sustained through protected funding. But then when another, different group who isn't protected can't make enough money, well, sucks to be you! For the record, I love Clemson women's sports and Clemson football, and I don't mean this as a shot at either of them. I hope all of our sports survive. It just frustrates me how we treat the men's and women's nonrev sports so differently, with the women receiving extra protection, while the men are excluded because they are seen as "privileged," all because we pretend that football and all the other men's sports are somehow the same. It just makes no sense to me.

I just really hope men's cross country, track, tennis, and golf can all survive.

There is "supposed" to be a clearinghouse that approves NIL deals for "legitimate" business transactions. Many schools will cut sports or drop down in divisions. I know of 2 St. Francis (PA) and Hartford that went to D3. To be sure more will follow.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, but even with a thorough and efficient clearing house...

the schools with the largest NIL war chests would remain the same. The 20 mil cap# would/will really serve as sort of an understood buy-in as well as an avenue for Title IV to make their customary ludicrous demands.

$20.5 million in revenue sharing... Question is, how will this be administered? Do players now become employees? Are they contract labor?
How do smaller schools compete? Football doesn't generate PROFIT at a lot of schools; they have them because of the face value. I would imagine that most acc schools will not be able to put that much money forward. Separation will now commence.
Do we now separate Div I schools into 2(?) leagues? I would have to believe, that if there is a "superleague", that not all sec or big10 teams will be invited. I just don't see how a league of 25-30 schools is all that exciting. Hilarious side note.... "superleague" includes us, but not USuC . Let the whining begin.
Fcs, div II & III are now developmental leagues for whatever the fallout is for Div I....

House is a temporary stay of execution for NCAA and conferences

There are clear antitrust violations occurring among other issues. Btw, talk about getting paid. Kessler and Berman, the famed antitrust litigators repping the plaintiffs, will walk away with up to $500,000,000 clams. I wonder why the plaintiffs decided to settle? Hahaha. Incentive to settle when the defendants know they are bent over a barrel (and threat of treble damages) if the action proceeds to trial and the merits? Fyi, backpay claimants in House will only get around $30K each based on number of claimants.

Fontenot v. NCAA and its antitrust claims continues along in federal court

Good read on why House is just a temporary reprieve.
