1st baitcaster I ever bought with my own grass cutting money. I was 12 or 13 maybe. I thinking qas $49.99...and I was more than proud to have it. Put it in a Lew's Speed Stick with a "Pistol Grip"

And how about that Rapala for $1.97. ...must be 30 years old at least...

And finally...the start of my photography career on the Broad River!

We need to start a channel. Spud Fishing Network. I have plenty of communications courses under my belt and could pass as a presenter! 🤣

I was taught the same way. When it came time to graduate Dad set a 5 gallon bucket in the yard and handed me a bait caster. I made so many birds nests! That taught me to sling it with some of the best. It helped I did a lot of fly fishing. My choice is still team Daiwa.

That was my first one also Spud. I back lashed it most of the time. One time I remember I was clearing a back lash and a 2 pound bass scooped up my worm and took off. I had to hand line it to get him.

agree, Daiwa had a much better control of the braking to prevent the bird nest.

Re: 202 was the first reel, I ever owned. Good reel for beginners, and was dirt

cheap. Only thing was, if you hung anything with any kind of fight, the nylon gears would strip out. The next reel I owned, was a 33. The gears were made of cast iron, and the thing was dang near indestructible. I bought it with my grass cutting money, in the 7th grade. $7.95, and included a rod. I fished with that thing until I got married, and then something that I thought could not be harmed, was destroyed by my wife. How did she do it? She don't know, it just happened. I bought another two after that, but apparently cast metal gears were a thing of the past.

LMAO, Spud maybe you should reframe from calling anything that you do with a camera as a photography career;)

I loved them, for shorter rods. Never understood why they weren't popular.

started with cane pole myself then graduated to Brim Buster (liked to slingshot bait under hanging bushes and limbs) then went to Zebco and broke back floating rapala. Now I go fishing at the Fish Market.

You won't drown many crickets at the fish market for sure...

I started out casting with an old Ambassador 5500, I became a wasp nest specialist before I ever learned to cast that thing without making impossible wasp nest. I spent more time untangling the line than I did fishing. But once I learn to cast that reel without having to cut the line off, I used that real up until my back injury ended my fishing days. I used a lot of other open faced reels over my lifetime, but I would always go back to my Ambassador 5500...
