agree with your first point, but I think you are mistaken Musk for someone with principles outside of his wealth and self-preservation. This suicide pact on the floor of our congress will hurt us a lot more than it will hurt him.

capable of realizing his mistake(s). Most don't.
It actually takes a lot of character, more than your below-average politician, to admit you made a mistake, and were had.
He does that, he's regained my respect.

I don't think the EV mandate is what has Musk angry. It's the spending.

You think a man who has leveraged and used money his entire life to force compliance, will spend less? No way, he will just spend to benefit himself or his legacy/family, and take money from people to force compliance.

I imagine you are right, but I don’t think that’s why he bought the election. He had the FCC sniffing around for misleading investors, a regulatory environment that was not favorable to his data centers, and I can only imagine a host of other issues. Like any billionaire, he spent pennies on the dollar for the return he get from receiving government favors such as Starlink being considered to supplement the FAA’s communications systems and the NHTSA is not too fond of his driverless taxi service. Despite what the markets say, TESLA is on thin ice, I would think he is more concerned about that. Agree that he is naive, but that comes with the territory of being neurodivergent.

He was also massively jammed up the Chinese.
Gigafactory Shanghai delivers more than half his vehicles and that leverages him to the gills. Leaving aside the fact that Shanghai is literally the worst city on Earth to put a massive-scale factory in - I mean, the city is SINKING due to its extraordinary weight and the fact that they're draining the aquifer under it, and it'll be underwater in less than 10-15 years, but it's also got the worst demographics in the nation with the worst demographics on Earth.
The city is OLD - average age is close to 50 - and it's stupidly expensive. Young people are fleeing Shanghai faster than you can say: "Lying flat". The ambitious ones head to Shenzhen, the Chinese version of Silicon Valley, the ones basically just looking for a place to ride it out to the end are going anywhere cheap. There's plenty of empty homes out in the countryside...the countryside itself is emptying at an alarming rate. Their population is collapsing.
Leaving that aside, the Chinese can also lean all over him because of that. They don't even have to nationalize his Gigafactory though that's coming once he's of no further use to them. All they have to do is step on some critical inputs and production screeches to a halt...for as long as they care to shut it down. Tesla will be broke in three months.
My guess - actually, a lot of peoples' guess - was this was the reason he showed up at the Pentagon out of a clear blue sky, demanding a briefing on the US's defense plans for Taiwan. Trump clearly was not in on that and it seemed to take even Donald aback; that actually seemed to be the start of their falling out. Whatever else you can say about Donald, his dislike of the Chinese is perfectly sincere.
Elon puts on a brave face - probably bolstered by horse-sized doses of ketamine - but you can tell he's desperate and has been for awhile.

And he's absolutely correct, and I'm more than positive he's seen the light. He was used. He's finally gotten the memo I got years back, and many other Republicans figured out.

though. Are there enough moderates and Independents to rally around him? MAGA and most Dems hate him now.

Dem).
One thing you can say about a lot of US voters is that they appear to be quite fickle. Musk is the best illustration of that. The guy makes viable electric vehicles and the Democrats love him...starts pushing back on their social agenda and they hate him. Works tirelessly to get Trump elected and becomes his leading cheerleader and MAGA loves him...questions one bill and MAGA hates him.
Anyway, I don't pretend to fully understand Musk but I think he is indeed an idealist. And I like that about him. I really think a non-idealist, when suggesting that he is going to make an electric car company or send rockets into space, would have given in when all his smart, "realist" friends told him he needed to invest in real estate and hedge funds or whatever. He didn't and I like that about him.
I would suspect that Musk would help define the vision, finance it and use his platform to market the candidates. He's almost certainly not going to run for office himself (and not even eligible for the Presidency). I think it would be great. As I've said on here before, I am a man without a party right now, so I would certainly welcome another voice.

I can't imagine being so transactional that you would threaten the man that almost single-handedly got you re-elected with DEPORTATION because he disagrees with a piece of legislation. A U.S. citizen at that.
And no one believes Trump when he says that Musk was just mad about the EV subsidies. Musk has never pushed for those and is on the record as being indifferent, IF fossil fuel subsidies are also not available.
Just an unbelievable #### show. The whole thing.

it would also require a charismatic face or faces...
I really like that Musk sees the debt as a huge issue (because I do too). And I think he has the US of As best interest at heart, but he's too much of a bull in a china shop for many to stomach.
Perot was able to stir up enough to get noticed...back in the day.
