No Regrets: Jadar Johnson moves on after losing the love of the game

There comes a time in the life of every player when the love of the game isn’t enough, when the wear and tear of the season and the constant grind leaves you wanting more. There also comes a time when the love of the game wanes, and you fall out of love with the mistress that pulled you in as a youngster. Full Story »

Best of Luck to Jadar, and that's great he's pursuing his education further at Clemson. He was a great player for Clemson and made some great plays at critical moments, especially his senior year. Hate to see him give up football, but his choice & the man's been a great representation of CU. I hope he finds success in all his future endeavors. To a great guy & player, Jadar.

Jadar, you are making the right decision. If we could have you for another year at Clemson, though, I'd be upset if you lost your love of the game. We shall not soon forget what you meant to this program. Without you, we would not have won a national championship. Hope that life brings you much success and I'm pulling for you in whatever career path you take -- I know you will be great. Also, I will always remember and cherish the speech you gave on stage when we celebrated the Title! :) All the best!

It takes courage to go against other people's expectation and make a life decision for yourself. I salute you Jadar. You showed BYOG. Best wishes.

I'm so proud of him too! It doesn't matter what your doing or where you or when you are lead to what your calling is.

The main thing is realizing your calling and go for it no matter what others want you to do.

I wasn't happy until I went after my calling and it was easy because I was meant to do it.

I'm proud Jadar realized it and went after it before I did!

Great story... the only thing better than knowing

what you want to do with your life is knowing what you don't want to do. We put so much pressure on these students to win these football games I'm suprised that more of them don't just walk away.

Fluxus®
"As I watched the game yesterday I couldn't help but feel crushed. We beat Furman by 4 TDs, but to me it looked like we got whipped."

As much as I enjoy watching these guys play I am even more happy to see them be successful in life. I am proud of our national championship team but I am even more proud of these guys who realize that life is bigger than football. They use the game of football as a launching pad for life. I know this is one of the things Dabo emphasizes to these guys. Use football. Don't let football use you. Best wishes Jadar. Follow your heart brother. You're on the path to be successful in whatever you do.

Absolutely hit the nail on the head. And that is what makes Dabo different than the rest bc he does do a lot to teach these guys that's about first, becoming a good man, and FB second. Dabo constantly preaches to make FB fun and while they are playing it, have fun doing it. Terry Don Phillips couldn't have went through the complete coaching search and found a better coach that the one he saw right in front of him in Dabo Swinney. From what Jadar took from becoming a man first at Clemson, is the reason that he was OK with making what he believed to be the best choice for him and for his future. There isn't a better man than one who wants to help other people sort out the best path for them in their lives. I wish him the very best with the choice that he has made for Jadar Johnson. I'm especially glad that he was a Clemson Tiger. Hopefully a lot more will start staying to get their education first bc, their education will leave them with more than the choice of FB. When they leave early with just part of their education, just part won't leave them with other choice if and when FB no longer wants them. I don't believe that my mom was lying to me all those years telling that an education is the best thing a person can have in their life. It helps you to be able to choose what you want to do in your life just as Jadar has done bc he was well educated at Clemson University. Good luck Jadar!!!!

I think that the key here for all student athletes is that he got his degree. And obviously he did well enough to get into graduate school, so now he can begin to pursue a career that will last him a lifetime. Football opened the door, but his education will take him on through it and last him for a lifetime. Good for you Jadar. You have done well for yourself and set an example for all student athletes.

Best of luck to Jadar! I really enjoyed watching him play at Clemson and I loved his I interviews because he gave spontaneous answers.

I am glad he figured out what he is passionate about and has taken the steps to achieve his goals.

I hope he knows that all those people who were asking him only about football were just excited for him because they thought he was pursuing what he loved. Clemson fans will always have a special place in our hearts for him.

Thank you for being a good example to so many

Aug 2, 2017, 8:14 AM

People back home love you and you have been a great example for so many in Orangeburg.
You have had a good run, with a great finish. You have nothing to be ashamed of = accomplished more than most college athletes.
You have a good perspective on life and will continue to be successful in whatever you choose to do.

Thanks for the memories.

When the news broke it bothered me that he gave up on his talent

Aug 2, 2017, 9:06 AM

Because he was one I was so excited to see in the NFL but to see that he is actually giving up the potential of millions of dollars to go back to school to help people is beyond commendable! It gave me chills to think of a young man thinking that far ahead in life and taking the road so much less traveled in the athletic world. Kudos to you JJ and all the best to you and your future. I will always pull for you. Go Tigers!!

No Regrets? Why would anyone possible think he would have any regrets? He's a college graduate and a national champion football player who is now going to pursue a higher degree. I'd call that a great success story. I'm also a Clemson graduate from a small town in the Lowcountry and very proud of that. This young man has accomplished that while being a major contributor on an extremely successful football team and is still headed to even bigger and better things. Regrets????? We all got a little peek inside this young man with you his speech at the Championship celebration. This humble champion will be successful in whatever he does. Well done Jadar!

I agree. He's already given so many people a lot of happiness. And at his age, he can go on contributing to help others for many years. Jadar, God bless you and thanks for many wonderful moments!

Happy to have this article

Was very curious about his circumstances. I remember hearing a story about him as a freshman getting into the game so fast that his position coach didn't know he had all his subs in. He definitely had a great fire; will serve him well as a mentor to younger athletes.

A good read: NFL Confidential by Johnny Anonymous shows how players can fall out of love with football, and then can't walk away. Jadar Johnson shows great maturity in his most recent decision. Kudos for Jadar for doing what is best for him!

You had time to contemplate and type out your comment but you still wound up with capitalization errors and a sentence fragment. Being a grammar troll doesn't suit you.
