Max Lennon a NCS grad always had a hard on for Coach Ford. Clemson provided Lennon with a pay check but word in the street during that time is that Lennon wanted to do anything he could to take Coach Ford down, and he did!

Bill Atchley left because of Ford. Ford was bucking the administration, and they were afraid he was heading toward another investigation, which would have meant the death penalty, and the SMU situation was fressh on everybody's mind. Ford had to go. He was his own worst enemy. A great player's coach, but a little fast and loose with the rules.

Atchley left because he was like all the others at that time and jealous that Ford was more popular than the academians. Danny Fords head isn't a quarter of the size of Atchley or Lennon or the rest of those egotistical ######## who couldn't stand the type of crowd a great football team brings to campus.
I'm just praying to God we aren't in for that again in a couple of years here.

It's true. But it's not the fact that he asked.....it was the fact that when his bosses said no..... he made a stink about it publicly.
He'd have probably gotten the dorms. But people in the know, knew the NCAA was going to outlaw Athletic Dorms soon. So the admin opted out. I think the NCAA outlawed them the following year.
Had Coach Ford been less vocal.... kept his mouth shut. He'd have been at CU a very long time.

Hershel wanted to come here..... his folks worked for UGA grads..... you figure it out. Mom and pops got to keep their jobs.
He got a TA as a consolation prize.
