Outside the chains, I kinda like Zeke's in Sandy Springs and the Chicken Basket in the 'lectric city.
Don't know if it's still there, but the Big Chick in Barnwell was good too back years ago. Always remember the lady at the counter "I need a basskit and a dinnar to go!"
Outside KFC, Popeye's, Church's and Bojangles, any local faves?

Or wings or breasts cooked the same way. All more better than fast food fried chicken.
HTH.

There is plenty of serviceable fried chicken around here, but nothing I'd considered legendary status. Shrimp Boat in Rock Hill has done it for 60 years and fried chicken is their claim to fame, but it's far from the best I've had. I hear good things about Helen's Hot Chicken too, but haven't been yet. Friendly Billiards had fried chicken that rivaled Price's, or ANY, but they only served it when they did holiday buffets (Easter, Mother's/Father's Day, etc). After the owner died of Covid and his kids took over, they quit doing the buffet altogether, and have since sold the place altogether.

Col Sanders batter add a touch of garlic salt and red pepper flakes
Cut breastices into medium size pieces. Dip in buttermilk, then batter
Deep fry for about 6-7 minutes at 375 or 400
For chains, prolly Popeyes, but we don't have Bojangles round these parts

Yes, as in Dukes BBQ. Best thing they have there and the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.
