Men's tennis gets a much-needed win in convincing fashion over Virginia Tech 4-0 to get off the 4-game schnied. They'd had such a great start to the year, hopefully this gets 'em back on track.
Women's tennis continues to struggle in conference play after an encouraging non-con start, losing 4-0 to Notre Dame.
Rowing had their first publicized meet today at the Rocky Top Invite against Tennessee, North Carolina, Duke, Minnesota, and UCF. Admittedly, I'm not very knowledgeable about rowing, or about how good any of these teams are, but the results didn't look very good comparatively for Clemson. The Tigers finished last in every race they took part in except one, and the one team they beat was the Tennessee B team by the skin of their teeth. Most of the time gaps didn't look very encouraging either, so we may need to have some patience with first-year head coach Adrienne Martelli.
Gymnastics put up more of a fight than I was expecting against higher seeds Florida, Oregon State, and NC State (the first 2 of whom are ranked and anchored by Olympians). The Tigers actually managed to get into 2nd place after the 2nd event, but a lackluster vault rotation ended their chances. Clemson finished 4th with 195.875. Florida won with 198.225, Oregon State was 2nd with 197.050, and NC State finished 3rd with 196.275. Florida and Oregon State will advance on in the NCAA tournament. Nevertheless, it was an encouraging regional for a Clemson team that underwhelmed during the regular season, partially due to injury.
The first day in Cali was a success, as softball found their power behind Moore and Knowler and then held off a late rally to top Stanford 7-5. The importance of that series looms quite large, both in the ACC and in regional-hosting projections.
Baseball also got the 2-run win, beating Cal 6-4 behind a deep start from Knaak and some big hits from Listi after being down 0-2 early. We saw some encouraging signs from pitching today, as Cal's offense is thought to be good. It will be interesting to see how the pitching and the hitting perform over the next two days out west, as the Tigers continue their first 2 weeks of road games in ACC play. Regardless, winning game 1 is a great start.

I really never understood us adding rowing as a sport. I thought Field hockey would have been a better add.🤷

My feeling having Lake Hartwell it was a no brainer really to why the reason the Athletic Department added the sport of rowing and I don't know if you are old enough to remember but there used to be a Varsity Women's Field Hockey team back in the late 70's and early 80's but it did not last long.I wish they would add Field Hockey and Equestrian.

It was a very cheap sport to add and didn't require adding a field...

Google the famous picture of the Clemson rowing team and you will see why it was a good addition.

Kept up with the Gymnastics Quad meet on the Gametracker/Stat page type thing and thought with the way the girls got off to such a great start in the first 2 rotations on Beam and Floor that they were gonna pull an upset and finish in the Top 2 in order to make it to the Sunday's Regional Final but those scores counted in the Vault and Uneven Bars did them in.The next goal for the Gymnastics program needs to not only make it back to the NCAA Championships but make it into the Regional without having to play in the Play In dual meet and then get to the Regional Final at least and also to really really be a good program and really compete with the elite teams they need to get the teams scores into the 197.000's because they have reached the 196.000's serval occasions. If they are ever gonna win an ACC Championship and advance to the Final 16 in the NCAA Championships then they have got score better than in the 196.000's.

Thanks for the recap. My daughter crewed for UCF and that meet in Tenn is big. The FL programs take crew seriously. I was proud of gymnastics, and I continue to be high on baseball this year. Softball also looks good after a lackluster start.

Yeah, upon reading the post-meet media release, maybe I didn't give them enough credit. Tennessee, Duke, UCF, and North Carolina are ranked 5th, 14th, 17th, and 20th, respectively. So maybe part of Clemson looking overmatched was due to the competition being strong. They also did get a win over Minnesota and North Carolina in one of their races the next day, so I should credit them for that.
