all those pre-1950 SWC championships must have been fun too. No wonder they think they can plink a head coach from lil ole Clemson.

I just dont think it is money that will convince Coach Dabo to leave Clemson. Is TA&M a better opportunity? I think not.

They should be able to hire Muschamp after this season. He was the HCIW while at Texas, so he would be a great hire for them.

After the coots roll into AggieLand this year and whoop 'em, they'll advise A&M that Dablo is nothing but a cheerleader and don't know a thang about X's and O's and is a cult leader and only won because of DW4 and that SEC teams got to stick together to keep him out of their beloved league.
That's my best Manafold/Jimnasium impersonation. Good night, folks!

Right ? They have a huge stadium and a rabid following ...like Clemson . However , they haven't won anything significant in football since before the 2nd World War and they're stuck behind 3 other teams in their side of the SEC . Being a Tejas team , they're 2nd fiddle to the Longhurns and will always be that . Dabo loves a challenge , but he ain't no fool .
Our tradition has been updated ...TAMU , like the Coots are just mouthing the words .

They have one consensus natty from back in 1939.

Both others are not consensus and were awarded retroactively for the 1919 and 1927 seasons. We could also claim 1948 by those standards.
Anyhow, they have a BIG following, but I'd argue not particularly rabid, just Texas proud. And yes, a huge stadium and some cool traditions, but having been to a game there I would say it does not even remotely compare to what Clemson offers.

Contract was revealed and it became apparent Dabo is the third best paid coach in all of college football. Texas A&M can't match that, sorry. If they could, they would have done it to get Summlin when they wanted him so bad. I actually think Summlin is a good coach, but he has an abrasive personality that has lead to top players leaving his program.

Because A&M's track record retaining coaches the past 20 years has been "impressive."
Dabo likes something College Station doesn't have. Trees and hills. 'Nuff said.

The guy can "double down" all he wants.
At some point, sure, money always talks, but realistically, what would it take to get Dabo?
Consider his current contract at Clemson: $6+ million a year, for 8 years. That's over $50 million.
Consider also this is his baby. He's built everything his way here. His staff. His players. His coaches. His facilities. Everything. All of it, built to his plan, to his vision. He's built (deep-rooted) relationships here, has family members in schools here, just finished construction of an extremely impressive new home.
At A&M - or even Alabama - he'd be starting over from scratch. Different culture, different staff, different people, and about half the talent base. Sumlin, as was mentioned above, is a good coach, but is also an abrasive one who runs off talent almost as fast as he gets it, which has been what's killed him. So you're talking a rebuild in the most unforgiving division on Planet Earth. Say what you want about the SEC East - and it's a clown show right now - the SEC West remains a murderer's row of (dirty) huge-money programs that are willing to do absolutely anything to win.
So what would it take, to get him to transplant?
A simple raise wouldn't do it. $7 or $8 million a year wouldn't do it. You'd probably have to talk $10 million a year before he'd even listen. And for how long? Consider he's already getting a guaranteed 8-year contract here. You'd have to give him at least 10 years guaranteed, you'd think. People paying that much tend to get twitchy trigger fingers if things don't go to plan, so you'd want a lot of years, with huge buyouts if they decide to part ways with you.
So you're probably talking 10 years, guaranteed, at $10+ million a year. That puts you on the hook for $100 million over the next decade. Then there's the question of his buyout - $6 million. Which means it's going to cost you a whopping $16 million dollars that very first year - with another $90 million the nine years after that - to get Dabo Swinney, if you're Texas A&M.
I don't know about you, but that would make me blink. Consider that the contract Jimbo Fisher tried to hit up LSU with was apparently around $70 million over a guaranteed 10 years - and LSU blanched and said No Way. And Jimbo, other than Urban, Dabo, and Nick - the first-name club - is the only other active coach to win a natty.
And even with 10 years and $100 million on the table, I'm not truly sure Dabo would bite. I dunno. Would you?

No. Same reason why a lot of people turn down career opportunities to make more money. They're comfortable. They love it where they're at. Clemson is Dabo's program. Why start over elsewhere and honestly why would the man ever need more money? He will have trust funds set up for the next three generations. What's a simple guy like Dabo going to do with it besides invest it to make more. The only thing that could pull at his heart is Alabama and I doubt that ever happens either.
