Feels like the Morris/Steele days

This year reminds me a lot of 2011 or 2014 (Morris/Venables).

We’re good but not great. We bend but have been broken a few times.

It’s a weird era for so many reasons - 12 team playoff, no conference divisions etc. and it feel like this Tiger team almost has all of the pieces, they just haven’t put them together.

I’m hoping we beat SMU, make playoff, and can make a go at it and that that will really bring us back to the right trajectory.

The other side: we lose and that could prove we’re at the end of our prime and revert back to the Bowden days.

To me, this game against SMU is our biggest opportunity since the last playoff.

Go Tigers!

Steele yes, Venables no. Even early, you could see the improvement under Venables. You could tell that he had elavated the defense and that he would get them better. There was hope. Steele gave up 70 to WVU. Also I don't feel the Morris comparison either. Yeah, we could not get past FSU or USC when he was hear. But that offense was elite. And while the addition of Sammy Watkins, the development of Tajh Boyd, and the emergence of Dhop all coincided at the same time, Morris instantly changed our offense from inept to elite. I honestly expected something similar when we hired Riley. And while there is no denying that he has been a great improvement over Streeter, He just has not had the impact that Morris had.

That’s the point: our offense is really good against bad teams but not so hot against good teams.

And defensively, missed tackles are a massive killer.

Morris/Steel without Sammy Watkins. Sammy by himself was better than all the receivers we have now put together

reminds me of Rob Spences offense***

Potentially a defining moment for sure…

We were a lot more exciting, aggressive team then.

I felt good about our potential and trajectory.

I don’t now. Total 180.

But instead of a heading toward 2015, we are headed to 2010.
