This idea is bad for college sports. I fail to find anything positive about this proposal other than it will funnel additional money toward certain booster programs.

Right now when I make a contribution to the 501©3 athletic program of my favorite school, I get an 80% tax deduction. This is an improvement for anyone claiming that tax deduction every year.

And what portion of my, say $1,000, is going to IPTAY? If it's 100%, how is UBooster making any money? If it's less, I'd rather give it directly to IPTAY.
Sorry, this sounds too sketchy to me.

I think you just pledge money. You aren't asked to actually write the check until the recruit chooses your school.
I'm like others in that this seems to introduce lots of potential problems.

I give the site money and tell it which recruits I want
The site does nothing to determine the outcome of said recruits decision
If recruit ends up picking my school, site gives my money to athletic dept
If recruit picks elsewhere, site keeps my money
Why not just give to the booster club right off the bat? What a joke

You pledge an amount. If my school gets this kid I will give you x dollars.
If kid goes to your school. . The site will ask you for your pledge and send it to your school.
If the kid does not. . You don't get asked for the money.
Noooo money gOes to the players, it all goes to the school or no-one. This is a very bad idea. People are aLready letting money confuse the college athletic model. This will only make it wOrse.

Correction - site does not keep your money. Your pledge is specific to a school in honor of the decision made by a player on signing day. If he/she chooses another school, you are not charged. The advantage of UBooster is allowing fans to connect more directly to the recruiting process - seeing which students are considering their favorite schools. No money goes directly to the players.
Ask the SGA President at Clemson about students' feelings about a recent proposal to raise an "athletic fee" on all students. The question is whether students at campuses across the country should be forced to support athletics programs or whether we, the fans, can help support our favorite schools and athletics programs.
For those concerned about corrupting the process of college athletics, this is finally a transparent effort to let fans show support for their schools and favorite players. If you like bags of money left in trunks and freezers, by all means the current system is working beautifully. We can do better.

These guys better hire a better marketing coordinater fast, because this article was very poorly written and portrays the wrong message! You better change your pitch fast before this gives Clemson a bad name, simply because of association and tigernet even writing an article on this, which looks pretty dumb!! First impression is everything, just look at the 20 posts above this one from other Clemson fans.

So basically, the BOOSTER clubs, i.e. IPTAY, gets the money and the fans just give the money to IPTAY with no benefits what so ever. Is that about it? Simple. Ill pledge $5 per 5-star we get. Money well spent.

Now...let the kid pick an accredited and certified non profit (CF Foundation, V Foundation, etc)...now that would be cool (still would need a lot of oversight, plus recruiting is too creepy already).

AWFUL idea! We need to take $$$ out of college football,
Jan 11, 2015, 7:37 PM
|
|
not provide more ways to fund it. We don't need a PIMP like system. If anything, we need to move towards STUDENT-athletes. A minor league pro system is desperately needed. Many of the college athletes have no business going to college. When they clearly cannot be accepted to these colleges based on their academic record, those kids need another avenue, but not college football.
