Fans can be funny

Isn’t it funny how some fans have zero ties to a school? I live in Florida and often have conversations with Bama fans at pubs. I have yet to encounter one with school ties, they simply claim to be fans because of the winning. I guess that’s everywhere though with a lot of teams.

started liking the Pistons during the bad boy era.. Around that time Barry Sanders suckerd me into be a fan of the NFL's version of the University of South Carolina.
I told my kids not to follow me down the rabbit hole.

Grew up in Greenville and my dad who had no ties to the school loved watching Clemson football so it is all I have known.
Buffalo is the team I pull for in the NFL. No ties to anything northern but they seemed to draft a good many Clemson guys so I jumped on that bandwagon a few years back.

Same here. Live in the Panhandle and the first 'Bama fan I met that went there was in Ft Huachuca, AZ!

Yea - somewhere around 2017-2018 I ran into a younger Bama fan at a golf outing and he started in on me about being a “bandwagon” Clemson fan and how you never saw Clemson fans until the last year or two. I told him I graduated in 1984 and my daughter was the Tiger Cub mascot and I might have mentioned that I had Clemson t-shirts older than him. I asked him what his link to Bama was and he just kind of mumbled something and went away. It was kind of funny.

my favorite color and the excitement still builds when I'm on my way to a game. When Clemson is on TV, everything else is on the back burner unless it is an emergency or it is something I'm obligated too. My blood runs orange and I'm passionate about a University I didn't attend but love it with all of my heart! So, if this makes me "funny" then so be it.

Right there with Mfo. Left hospital with orange and rumor later was I'd cry if I didn't have a paw on somewhere. Both siblings and dad graduated Clemson.

Some on here downgrade non-alumni. Many of those non-alumni contribute financially to Clemson. My family being one of those. My how ignorant some people are.

I'm not an alum but my grandfather has been in IPTAY since the mid 70's. I was born in 80 and have been attending games since 86. I love Clemson as much as anyone who has ever went to school there. So proud of what Dabo is about and has made Clemson about. I just laugh at all these band wagon fans. All of us real true Clemson fans have suffered and sat through ALOT of bad football to get where we are. I'm married and have a kid now so I don't get to go as much as I used to. Me and my crew didn't miss a home game from 93 thru 07. Man those were such good times!! Mite have even run into a few of yall up there

It truly is funny how it all plays out. My story starts 47 years ago in Pennsylvania. Everyone around me and all of my family members were Penn State fans except for one. My mom worked for the State and one of her Supervisors was a Clemson. She decided that was who she would route for and I didn’t think following the crowd would be much fun so I went with her to the Clemson side. I remember that I was never allowed to hang posters on my bedroom walls until 1981, I was allowed to hang one. I decided college wasn’t for me so I went to the Seabees (Navy) and later figured college might be for me. I did my undergrad at Southern Miss because it was close to base and one day decided to get my Masters. I did that at Clemson because it was a dream I wanted to fulfill. I just graduated in May, but before that I was a super fan like most of us. I’m glad I did it, but I definitely understand how people that aren’t Alums are super fans. Luckily I had the opportunity to go to Clemson but if I hadn’t it would not have changed who my team was. Go Tigers!!!

My father was born in 1912, and orphaned at 12 years old. I came along in 1946. As far back as I can remember he listened to Clemson football on the radio. The first football game I ever attended at age 7, was Wake vs Clemson, in Clemson. I went into the army after graduating high school. I never attended Clemson. I used the GI Bill and working full time to get an AS degree and later a BA because the company I worked for would reimburse me for college expenses. My brother and one nephew went to Clemson. That's my closest connection. I'm a fan and will remain a fan.

I am now up in Virginia....
I don't think sports exist anymore. I asked the local TV station for some updated football standings and they gave me the English Premier League link. I tried to be specific and asked for the NFL standings and was sent to the National Forensic League.
Very weird place.

I'm not an alum and I live in Jersey, I have family that lives in Santee, SC who I visited each year. The one trip we went fishing and I forgot a hat so I needed to buy one, say a Clemson hat (didn't know what it was at the time) thought it was cool and got it. Well in SC you are either a tiger or gamecock you all know that. Here I am walking around with a Clemson hat not knowing a thing lol. I had people saying go tigers and stuff about the gamecocks. When I went home I looked Clemson up, starting watching them and the rest is history.
