Dabo's report card
Dec 11, 2013, 3:43 PM
|
|
How has Dabo done these past few years? I keep listening to the radio and all I get is praise and how he has done an excellent job. He has done well, except for one thing....5 straight losses to the Coots. To me thats like making all A's on you minor tests but failing the final exam. Your thoughts?

Good recruiter, good mentor to the kids, he's building the program and winning the right way. We haven't had a "W T F" game in 3 years. He's won an ACC title and he has two division titles.
The only bad mark he gets is for the streak to the Coots. But that'll change.

Fair enough. It was a different kind of "W T F".

It wasn't a Maryland or Wake "W T F".

He's done great...

I like where we are going.
I might even give him an A+ if he'd gone 2-3 against the coots the last 5 years.
No excuse for the embarrassment of losing 5 straight. Alabama is not our rival. Dabo has to understand that this is not the way things work in South Carolina.

I agree that he's done an excellent job. I also think that the pressure we put on beating usc-e is part of the problem. I think that given the relative equality of the teams, that this year's loss is more on our players' nerves than on talent, scheme, or preparation. I think that they wanted it too much.

Somewhere between a B+ and an A-. 3 ten win seasons is pretty fantastic, I don't care who you are. He has quite a few top 25 and top 10 wins and I feel like we are playing at a much better level than the past 20 years. Recruiting is really, really good. Hiring of coordinators is outstanding.
Black marks- Obviously losing to SCAR 5 times in a row is unacceptable. Worst BCS bowl loss ever. Worst home loss ever by Clemson. Can't seem to play at a consistently high level, but at least we have enough talent to overcome that against most teams.

B+ for me and here is why
Dec 11, 2013, 4:06 PM
|
|
4 full years 3 division championships 1 conference championships 3 straight 10 win seasons 2 BCS games
Do people realize how much Clemson fans would have killed for this success before he got here?
Doesnt get an A because of the rivalry game but people need to realize this man is doing great things here. Great person, great leader, and the right person imo to lead the Clemson program.

He won 2 Division Championships. Counting a tie in year when FSU beat us is cootish.
But yeah he's done very well. Had he beaten them 3 of 6 no one would be saying word, or at least very little would be.

I'd say he gets a B+. He as shown enthusiasm and a willingness to win. He has led the team to 3 10 win seasons. He has won the ACC, and then let his team lay an egg in the Orange Bowl.
It's a mixed bag, but only a few teams have been as successful or more successful than Clemson in the past few years. He has to get credit for that.

B-
Love the recruiting and waxing the floor with team's we're supposed to beat. Love the pride he's brought back to the program and fanbase. I love being in discussions on the national level and winning OOC games against SEC teams not named SCAR. I love the staff he's built and the facility improvements he's helped bring along.
However, it's also frustrating that 1) win the state championship and 2) win the division/ACC are both on the same level of the totem poll in terms of team goals ---- yet he always talks exclusively about the former. When we're put out of the ACC Championship race, his focus doesn't shift to the other big goal - which is disconcerting considering how much "goals" are talked about and how important that game is to the fans. If Dabo's "gets it" as far as this game is concerned, it sure as hail hasn't showed in his demeanor or response to this game.
All in all a success. But you have to think that if he were to leave today, people would remember "5 straight for the first time in history" more than they would "first ACC Championship in 20 years."
Time to beat SCarolina.

I agree is seemed cootish to me as well. It's really getting annoying with all these posts about Dabo. People need to get some perspective. We've had a pretty good run since he's been here. Losing to SC and a National championship are about the only two things he hasn't done. But he's improved our program in every other imaginable way. If folks can't see that then they are either blind or they don't have a very good perspective on the big picture. There's ONE undefeated team this year - ONE!
Also, for the coot trolls that bash Dabo, they should really stop. Dabo has been nothing but classy in his comments about USC. If you listen to his press conference he was nothing but classy, respectful and complimentary to them. He's trying to bring some class to the rivalry. Can't say the same about the ole ball sack....

He gets an A for establishing a program that is worthy of a BCS Bowl most years and winning ten plus, and his recruiting is building a great talent pool, future is bright. Wish he was more like a Danny Ford type when facing the media.

D. Losing to S. Carolina 5 years in a row makes him below average. 10-2 season keeps him from getting an F.

I would give him a B-

It's no lie, he has done a great job surrounding himself with a dedicated and winning staff that brings in big-time recruits, sets a very high standard both on and off the field and has placed this program on the brink of becoming one of the biggest dogs at the park. He brought us our first conference title in 20 years, has now taken us to 2 BCS bowls, has guided us to wins over top-15 SEC teams in LSU and Georgia and has guided us to 3 10+ win seasons in a row.
BUT, he has also guided this team during our worst stretch ever against SC with five straight losses - all by double digits - and we have suffered the two most embarrassing losses in program (and some would even say FBS/BCS) history at the hands of West Virginia and Florida State. These two (or seven if you will) are overlooked a lot but I feel but they are tell-tale signs that while we are moving in the right direction, we still have quite a ways to go as a program that competes week-in and week-out at the highest level... and he still has a ways to go before he can be considered one of the best coaches in the country.
