Elite WR is our Problem

We have solid guys but no difference maker that keeps two people watching. You must have one guy that needs double coverage or the offense has issues as tonight

nope

OL is the issue.... has been for years. We've overcome it with awesome QB and WR play with occasiional RB play.

I agree. OL needs to get nasty***

OL is too small. Exhibit A: UGA.

Dec 30, 2022, 10:32 PM [ in reply to nope ]

Our original starting five OL starters had grown into a pretty good unit.

Our OL play took a step back when starting LG Marcus Tate went down against Miami.

Our OL depth has not developed fully yet.

OL and balance play calling, and we win easy

Missing Beaux Collins for sure but the OLine is not helping at all. And Shipley with 5 touches is ludicrous

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Collin is solid but a "threat" seriously?***

Tennessee is bringing pressure. You can’t expect 5 people to block 6 or 7. Somebody’s has to get open on a hot route.

You cannot place that rating on WR`s when you have a below average QB...sorry but that's the way it is and we will see a change this year...have you ever seen a great WR who was feed a solid diet of tunnel screens...same cat made our OC look sub standard...he was groping for something for DJ to complete...didn't he look smart and the WRs look great against the dirty feet!

Re: Elite WR is our Problem

Dec 30, 2022, 10:19 PM [ in reply to Re: Elite WR is our Problem ]

I agree 100%. This is easily the least talented WR corp we’ve had in over a decade! *Especially with Beaux Collins out

When you have Cole Turner, Drew Swinney, Antiono Willams and Davis Allen as your 4 WR set at the 20 yd line going in to score you got skill position talent issues.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WR is not the biggest issue.

Dec 30, 2022, 10:22 PM

Poor coaching and play calling and a terrible OL are the biggest issues!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: WR is not the biggest issue.

Dec 30, 2022, 10:35 PM

Our coaching, including the incorrectly maligned Streeter, is fine.

People like you are like ostriches with your head in the sand.

Dec 30, 2022, 10:40 PM

Cade is starting his first game as a true freshman and threw 29 passes. We have two fantastic running backs and Shipley only had five carries. That is incompetent coaching!

People like you that constantly defend our coaches when the TV announcers everybody watching most of the people on Tigernet and anyone that even slightly understands football can see the inconsistent and poor coaching, but people like you are on here attacking anyone that points out that obvious deficiency! You look like a clown.

Did you even play peewee football? Because most of the people that comment on here don’t know anything about football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: People like you are like ostriches with your head in the sand.

Dec 30, 2022, 10:50 PM

I played organized football as a young kid. That isn’t the source of my understanding about football.

Rather than blaming poor output on a player or a coach because I get mad, instead I analyze the game.

Doofuses who don’t understand football are those who mouth off the most and always blame the coaches and/ or the QB whenever a play doesn’t go well.

After we beat TN tonight, you won’t have the self respect to admit that you were wrong about Streeter.

Oh, by the way, many TV announcers make stupid comments because they are expected to mention the names of marquee players numerous times during each broadcast. Take their comments with a grain of salt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope. Not at all. You can only polish a turd so much.

1

Jan 22, 2023, 9:36 PM [ in reply to WR is not the biggest issue. ]

Coaching got everything possible out of the turd.

DJ is a great guy. Seems to be be loved by teammates and coaches alike. But he just didn't have it here.

Our OL run blocks far better than they pass block

Dec 30, 2022, 10:24 PM

And our RBs are far superior to our WRs. So Streeters default is to throw it all over the yard because playing to your strengths is overrated apparently.

Re: Our OL run blocks far better than they pass block

Cannot run consistently if the defense has stacked the box.

TN has one of college FB’s worst pass defenses.

A few completed passes here and there will keep TN from stacking the box … which will open up the running game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're not an extraordinary OL, but we're good.

Jan 22, 2023, 9:33 PM [ in reply to Our OL run blocks far better than they pass block ]

A QB in today's game needs to help his OL. Running game was our statistical strength, and it would have been much better if teams weren't able to put 8 in the box without fear of the QB going downfield.

Find a downfield passing QB, like Cade Klubnick, and watch the running game take off too. Bet me.

I don't typically like to point fingers, but since the primary handcuff to having a great offense has moved on, then it's fair game to point to the primary constraint holding the program back over the last two years.

Re: Elite WR is our Problem

Dec 30, 2022, 10:28 PM

WR has been one of the top 2 problems for us this year.

Tonight, Ngata is having his best game of the year and Cole Turner looks good. Same with Antonio Williams.

But yet, still no real game breaker J’mar Chase or Jameisin Williams type players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Definitely missing elite WR play

1

Jan 23, 2023, 9:20 AM

Antonio Williams is the best WR on this team. Unfortunately we are having trouble recruiting and holding onto that top tier WR talent while Ohio State is currently hoarding top WRs. Hopefully Cade being QB1 can change that to a certain extent, but at the end of the day it's the position coach who has to answer for it.

Re: Definitely missing elite WR play

Jan 24, 2023, 9:26 AM

Cade plus an offensive scheme that’s respected for it’s accomplishments will do wonders for Oline, WR, and RB recruiting. There won’t be many can’t miss 5 stars due to NIL $ demands, but atleast they will get the 4 stars they target instead of the promising 3 star fallbacks on the recruiting board.

Re: Elite WR is our Problem

Jan 24, 2023, 1:08 PM

Obviously WR hasn't been our only problem, but I do agree it's been a large part of it. I think we have some solid guys, but it feels like we have a bunch of guys that would normally be #2 or #3 receivers on a team and we've been lacking that true #1 guy. IMO we've been missing that guy at WR that keeps defensive coaches up at night. We've also been missing that Renfrow type of receiver that our offense can turn to on 3rd downs to make the 3rd and 5 type of plays because they run great routes and have reliable hands.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Then we fired Streeter for no reason?

Jan 24, 2023, 1:13 PM

This is not good.

Coaching change will make a big difference. I’d like a little more height and maybe a speedster but Mike Williams was a 4 star if I remember right and was able to develop to be an all star.
