Amazing how these other Top 25 offenses don't do too well when they play our defense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We do play one of them, at least

May 24, 2023, 10:56 AM

I'm curious to see what happens when we do play them this year & now that you mention it I wish we plaved way more of them! Can't wait.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We play 4 of them not 1. FSU, WF,ND and UNC.***

Interesting strategy looking at a ranking that only takes into account 2023-2025 and drawing conclusions based on previous games.

Even so, here are some recent offensive outputs against Clemson with these teams:

Ohio State - 49 points in 2020 CFP
Alabama (2016-2019) - 29 ppg in 4 games
Tenn- 31 points just a few months ago
FSU- 28 points last year
LSU- 42 points in 2019 CFP

In today's CFP a great offense will beat a great defense more often than not. Look at the past 10 CFP champs and notice how many of those teams were in the top 5 in offense that year. Virtually all of them

I think it is better than being ranked number one with nowhere to go but down due to over-hyped expectations from a woke news organization. I'll take that #25 and watch Clemson make them eat their hats.

I'm not sure where I'd put us after last year, but I can't get mad at this as we got vastly more mad in Clemson nation of NOT being a top-25 offense.

Also, ESPN quite literally pays our bills, you know? I only mean to answer your question, but I love the ACC Network personally, especially for all the Clemson grads with national shows on there & more.

We can handle this stuff, I think, no?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I think it's OK

You should put us exactly what we were last season, and the season before. We were a team with a QB that lost his confidence, and he had the same QB coach both of his bad seasons that did nothing to help that young man to find his way back to how he played in the two starts he had against Boston College and against Notre Dame @ Notre Dame. And I'm totally convinced that once Streeter started coaching DJ full time, his coaching is what screwed up the DJ that we saw in his first two starts of 2020!!!

IMHO, Streeter screwed DJ up so bad that he lost all of his confidence and ability to perform as a Top D-1 QB, and once the team recognized that DJ had lost his confidence, it killed their drive to perform at their best. Dabo saw also saw what the team saw, and that is the very reason he fired Streeter and hired Garrett Riley.

2022 collapse/failure was mainly bc Dabo felt he owed his loyalty to Streeter once Tony Elliott took the job at Virginia at the end of the 2021 season. What I can't figure out is how did Dabo miss the fact that DJ had regressed once Streeter was coaching DJ full time, and he didn't see the DJ's confidence level hit the bottom from his two starts 2020 bc our offense really struggled in 2021, and that was mainly bc of the way DJ was playing, he even pulled him in the Pitt game and put Phommachanh in that was just as bad as DJ if not worse. Even though TE was still the OC, Streeter was also the QB coach that had done nothing to improve either of his top two QB's. Once Streeter was the OC, DJ had already lost his total confidence that he was the right man to lead our offense. And this is why I have asked myself many times how Dabo has missed what was happening with his QB's.

IMO, Dabo had to know that DW4 and TL16 didn't need any coaching from Streeter bc both were already top college level QBs when they got to Clemson, and both only needed to gain muscle weight and get use to the speed of the game, and they were set for being top winning college QBs bc of the systems they came from out of HS, and the talent that both had was off the charts. I know that Dabo is a loyalty type person, but I still wonder about the boxes he checked that allowed him to promote Streeter as our OC/QB coach when he still hadn't proven himself as a D-1 top level QB coach bc DW4 and TL16 didn't need any coaching bc their raw talent was off the charts....

Back above Southern Cal even, though, for example? I dunno, I think if they did that for, say, Ohio State or Alabama after having consecutive seasons similar to the ones we've had here at Clemson and they didn't move at all we'd be livid rather than insisting they, too, shouldn't budge on a futures list this way, you know?

I think we're taking this 3-year list too much to heart is all, & again, I'm just trying to help.

I hate how much stuff like this so negatively affects so many people in Clemson nation & wish we could figure it out.

I think DJ did as well as DJ as DJ was going to do, if he improves to what his potential was out of high school then maybe Streeter... he has A LOT of flaws.... arm strength not being one of them...

It was the “clemson offense” Streeter (and Elliott) were told to run. We never saw Streeter’s offense. And even within the “Clemson Offense” Dabo took over on the headset much of the time. If you noticed inconsistency in the play calling…that’s why. Streeter is was not given full reigns to do his thing.

Re: I think it's OK

May 25, 2023, 7:26 PM [ in reply to Re: I think it's OK ]

I really don't think it was totally Streeter's fault. DJ made a comment I read that he did not like the play calls. He wanted to throw down the field and he did not always get the ball to the WO. There were a lot of dropped balls if I remember correctly. He and the WO was not on the same page at times. I do believe in DJ but if you are not happy with the play calls it will affect your performance. Attitude is such a big part of sports. With so many injuries Streeter had to work around them. I know Streeter called it cautiously at times, but DJ needed to go with the attitude that no matter what they asked him to do he could and would do it. I defended DJ all year and was shocked when he left and said what he did. Not everyone was against him, there were times it appeared he was going through the motion rather than have his heart in it. I pray he does a great job at His new school and I wish him the best, when others was calling him out I defended him and still believe that he will do great. In the NFL he will have to adjust and I do want him to be great.

May 24, 2023, 10:45 AM

I admit, I wanted to see Coach Streeter succeed more than 10 wins last year just because he's a legacy Tiger & it was a bit of a rebuilding year by nature.

It's also hard to ignore there's kinda nowhere to go but up, & while Cade didn't have as great a debut as other Clemson-offense leaders, I'm relentlessly curious to see where Clemson's offense ends up being ranked at the end of the 2023 season.

An honest look shows me that we are a total unknown offensive team. It makes zero sense to even think comparing this team or any future team to the 15-19 teams because of the stars on those teams. Will our offensive line progress this year, will our receivers and QBs be better, will the line block well enough for our backs? We will start finding out September 4.

When they say stuff let this it only challenges our coaches and players more. Tigers lets go prove them wrong. You guys are too good to let them put you all in a box. Tigers lets go get it done!!!! Love your guys. Love all our players and coaches. You guys put to much hard work in to be disrespected. PROVE the Tigers are not a mediocre program. We have to much talent to let them put us down. Once again, ESPN shows how stupid they can be regarding Clemson. It is true that DJ and Clemson did not dance well together, but the pieces are there. If Klubnik is anything close to what we have come to expect, if the OL has come together as well as it sounds, if our WR's can find their footing and live up to their potential, if Riley continues his brilliance as a coach, Clemson should have a top 5 offense as well as a top five defense. Yes, there are a lot of ifs in that sentence, but the only one truly in question is about the WR's. If that room lives up to its potential, Clemson will be playing for the National Championship.
