You were spot on with your articles this past season with concerns about the team. I trust your opinion to answer a question that I have. How does Clemson compete for portal players against schools that are cheating? TIA

Do you mean tampering before players are in the portal, or something else?

Schools are tampering by contacting players on scholarship at other schools and offering them money. I firmly believe this is what is happening with the majority of good player transfers that we all are drooling over. The other situation is the bidding war that is occurring when a non tampered player enters the portal. It is illegal to pay a player to commit to a school.
I need to rewatch the Gator Bowl against Kentucky. I am remembering one of the announcers mentioning that Dabo focuses on using NIL to keep his current players on the team. Does anyone else remember him stating that? For Dabo to do otherwise would be cheating. I believe that Dabo will not cheat. I also feel Brad will not cheat either. He lost Zion because Duke bought him.

Could it be that the effort isn't there as far as recruiting them like it is for a high school kid? Clemson has recently been to the mountain top and if there is a better option out there it's got to be pursued heavily. We are 1 injury away from being in the creek at DE with no true proven guys with experience outside of Parker.

to get in earlier on guys prolly means tampering? These guys are in the portal one day and a couple days later 'signed with uga or fsu'. We gotta get our bids to them prior to the announcement. LOL

I agree. If tampering is as you descibe (and I think it is), then we can't get to the player any earlier unless we start the tampering ourselves - something I don't think Sabo wants to do.

Earlier gif most schools is tampering. Maybe the NCAA will legalize tampering as it seems the only illegal thing left.

Everything Dabo does, he’s proven to be among the best at. He does not want to be involved with transfers. Period.

Maybe also would help for Dabo to offer 9th graders, cast a wide net by offering 200+ scholarships, pulling scholarships and running players off as do a lot of other coaching staffs. All of that is part of the problem, not just NIL & TP.
We can’t just compartmentalize the issue, a common pitfall of linear thinking. You're essentially asking Dabo to change nearly everything about how he’s built his program over 15 years, not just “use the portal more”.

Well, they may have a plan..."I'll enter the portal and some school will see my value and sign me, and I'll get some high-quality PT!"
Instead, more than half the kids who enter the portal NEVER find a new home.

So by earlier... are other schools tampering and getting ahead before they are in the portal so by the time they declare for the portal and we contact them, they are already connected elsewhere?
OR
They get in the portal and Clemson spends time researching the player while other schools jump on them right away?
Which one is the bigger problem?

DavidHood® Obviously money isn't an issue at Clemson but I'm eager to hear how Levon Kirkland is going to make an impact for NIL and what kind of plans he has to incorporate NIL into locking down some of these portal guys. In other words, how much money is the University's NIL department going to start throwing at these guys?

You know most, if not all of these players at the top end already know where they are going when they put their names in.... Clemson cannot contact them until they appear in the portal while other schools have already tendered their NIL+ offers...

There's two ways to get in earlier. Illegally or legally.
Someone said maybe we are spending too much time researching players in the portal and other teams are prepared to get them as soon as they hit the portal.
If we are serious about using the portal, I would have the person responsible for monitoring the portal to get to work on identifying possible transfers earlier. The Clemson portal guru should be looking at certain teams and identifying positions we need filled and start researching those players on other teams. Keep a file on each player and when one we are interested in hits the portal, we will already know all about him. Use Microsoft AI software to ID the players.
Maybe someone is just lazy and does not want to do the work. Replace that person with someone who is proactive and knows how to do research using the latest AI software.

David Hood is 10000% correct.
This is one of the changes that IS happening that I keep chirping about.
Its happening, but very slowly. You should see the number of offers slowly rise. Too often, we get burned when we don't land our top targets and scramble at the end and end up taking projects or lesser rated players. Granted, some of these takes have been rewarded (ETN, etc..), but statistically you are going to get burned. Don't need to offer 300 kids like some schools, but a bit more would be helpful. Again, Dabo is 1000% correct in making that Clemson offer special....but only offering 70-75 ± will often get you burned, particularly in today's climate.
You guys are going to see us use NIL more for HS kids and portal. Again, very slowly and we won't overspend. I wish we were moving faster, but Dabo is on the right track. I cannot overstate how great these new hires are---and part. their influence on tweaking the system....
