But he was one of those entertainers whose music changed so much over the years there's something everyone's bound to like at some point. I liked his early music mostly. The folk/country songs and then his box set songs. After that he got a little too funky with the Carribean thing. But yeah. He was a legend. RIP

But I hadn't kept up with any news about him since. Captain and the Kid is on of my favorites by him along with his version of Fred Niel's song Everybody's Talking.
RIP

Dude was among the top wealthiest musicians. Smart enough to license and leverage. Recently profiled in Forbes.

Jimmy was a king of the 3 chord song. Probably saw Jimmy Buffett more than any other music performer in concert. By all indications he lived a fulfilling life, brought joy to lots of people, made lots of friends, and enjoyed the fruits of his labors - can't ask for more than that out of life. RIP Jimmy...

Jimmy Buffett was a storyteller and the music created the background.

Together it manifested into a carnival _ a party. It was fun. It captured unique moments in life.
There were and are better musicians and better singers. Bu something about Buffett songs made me smile.

I wasn't a Parrothead, but I was a fan. I saw Buffett many times back in the 70s and 80s, he came to Carowinds almost every year. I consider his first 7 albums to be classics, and he was at his peak as a singer-songwriter then. I've probably read all of his books, and I consider him to be one of the great marketing minds of my lifetime. I think on top of it all, Buffett managed to do all that he did and remain a decent human being through it all. He lived an incredible life and made a lot of people happy. That's a pretty strong epitaph in my opinion.

Back around 1980-1983, JB would show up sometimes late at Captain Harry's Blue Marlin Bar in CHS and stroke some tunes while having a big time. That was some fun stuff.
This was pre cell phone era but within 30-45 minutes, the crowd swelled and he'd take off with Harry probably for a smoke break.

Makes me sad. I liked his music and 76 is to young this days. Legend has it that he had a concert at Clemson in the middle '70s and had to give away tickets to get people to watch him. A few years before my time; don't know if it's true.
