In his interview with Graham and Mac Lain he said so. Paraphrased, "Everybody is going to use the portal this year. How else are you going to get to 105?"
He's the first coach I've heard publicly talk about having to use the portal to get to the 105 number.
Nole fans and "experts" on websites are saying FSU will have to get "30 or maybe even 40 from the portal this year." I respond, "They will get 40 at least and probably over 50. That's the only place to get to 105."
I suspect Clemson will take 10-15 from the portal this year.

Now that I think about it, it may have been his Sunday presser about the ACC championship game. Don't remember where I heard it, but I heard it somewhere because it jumped out at me as I thought, "Finally, somebody mentioned getting to 105."

People who do not think so are just trying to deny. He has stated he will do it if recruiting does not get what we need. Clearly, we did not get what we need this cycle and the 105 limit will force him to use it lest we be significantly hampered by lack of players. Dabo may be stubborn, but he is not outright stupid.

Or, he won’t and not have to “run off” all the walk-ons on the team. He will probably fall somewhere in the middle. Keep some walk-ons and get 5-10 out of the portal.

I do believe we will use the portal this year but not at the number you mentioned. I have seen a change in philosophy for Dabo and the administration over this last week. I feel it is because of the large number of decommits for the 2025 class. Dabo no longer can field a competitive team from high school recruiting. They are begging for money for the 110 society collective. Clemson money wise can not compete with the big boys but it will help for this new change of philosophy. Good luck to your FSU recruiting. You ate are a class guy. I try to be one myself.

It jumped to help manage the roster better with all the players transferring annually. Also No Walk-ons to prevent schools from buying all the top players and just letting them buy their tuition. Similar to what Bear Bryant did in the day where he recruited every good player to prevent them from going to another school.

Most teams have 120+ guys on the squad. You have guys who are scout team players. They are used for practice only. They are tackling dummies in the spring and fall. During the season they work with GAs and mimic the opposing team offense and defense every week.
Dabo has talked about how difficult it will be with only 105 allowed at practice. (And, yes, it is my understanding that all 105 must be on ship. No walk ons allowed.)
With only 105 allowed to practice, that means guys not on the 2 deep depth chart will have to spend a lot more time on the scout team. (Think about the guys who are 65-85 in ranking of the 85 guys on ship today.)

I appreciate the replies by you both. Was not comprehending that new rule. So it’s not like you could add additional studs. You need some for the scout teams as well and that number has actually dwindled. Interesting!
