Found an old bottle of Crown Royal, and though to myself I hadn't had a Crown and Coke in years, why not?

Grabbed the bottle and it looked odd. First off the label said "Seagrams Crown Royal", which I thought was odd. Then I noticed it had the old liquor tax seal on the top, unbroken. So I knew it was one of dad's old bottles. Then I looked at the date on the tax seal.....1969.

So question is....should I drink it? Sell it?

This is what the bottle looks like:

I survived drinking from a bottle of Old Crow that was hidden in the walls of my great grandfather's house, and was found when my cousin remodeled it. My cousin and I sat down one night, opened the bottle, and had a drink over a few cubes of ice. Wasn't too bad. Best we could guess, the bottle had to be shoved into the wall between 1920 and 1937, and with prohibition was probably the mid to late 30's. The bottle looked like this...

An empty bottle of 69 is listed on eBay for $24.99 so you could probably get 7 maybe?

This is the correct answer. My dad is still living, but he and I and my brothers toast my late grandfather every year on his birthday with the last bottle he bought, and love to retell the same old stories about him.

Before he passed he would notoriously mix really nice scotch and bourbon with juicy juice, strawberry lemonade, whatever happened to be in the fridge at the farm.

He also cut his own hair for probably 60 years, and used to always say he paid himself $10 for every haircut, and when he’d saved enough up he’d go and buy a bottle of bourbon, Canadian whiskey, whatever. Someone asked him what he does when the price of liquor goes up, he said he just charges himself more for a haircut.

Cleaning out my gran-in-laws house when she died. Her deceased husband was the tax guy for all the locally owned bars and restaurants in town and his clients gave him a nice fresh bottle of booze every Christmas and St Patty’s day. There were quite a few from the 1950s. They didn’t drink but kept it all so It ended up taking up most of the floor in an entire bedroom.

Needless to say over the years we have sampled a bit of the product from this stash and none of it is off.

All has been good so far, haven’t opened the CC yet.

I read up on it and as long as it’s unopened and doesn’t look/smell off it should be fine. Only danger is if it gets contaminated somehow if opened.

Not really a big Bourbon drinker. If I'm going whisky it's usually Scotch or Irish. Normally whisky is an Autumn/Winter drink for me; however, once in a blue moon I'll have a Bourbon. I like it on the hottest soupiest evening, outside in the garden. For some reason it feels like a Southern thing to do on that sort of evening.

All fine for ice. And water, ginger ale, or any other mixer.

Single malt? High-end bourbon? Japanese? Just a splash of water at room temperature. Or neat.
