I think Cooper is gonna have a great spring game this year. Really hope for no red shirt for him. Not confident in Bryant or Tucker with our offense. Any one else think coop will be our starter after #4?

Almost to the point where redshirting him could hurt with the 2 17 QB commits.

If he was an EE I could see him getting out of a redshirt, but with limited knowledge of the playbook he will probably be 4th string at best so reps will already be limited in practice. Really no point in wasting a year of eligibility.

What's amazing is how somebody can evaluate Cooper
Feb 14, 2016, 2:43 PM
|

base solely on youtube highlight clips from HS, without him having set foot on campus much less actually competing against his competition or even practicing at this level, and then go so far as projecting him to be the number 1 back-up and eventual starter.

Your opinion is respected. To me, Cooper looks fantastic on film. Based on that, I too expect him to compete. I just think we're getting the cart way ahead of the horse when we start projecting him as a starter when we already have guys here who are very talented themselves, and we underestimate the value of the experience they have at this level and in our system. To me, it's a classic case of the overly optimistic belief that the back-up (or the new guy) is somehow better than the guy we have, especially if the guy we have isn't living up (yet) to what may be unrealistic expectations. That's just my humble opinion.

His highlights prove he has the most upside of the 3 that will battle after DW leaves. Streeter says he has the most upside. Pretty sure he will start his Sophmore year. You can play stupid all you want acting like this is not true but we all know he will beat Tucker and Kelly.

This is a good problem to have, almost surreal when our backup choices were the likes of 3 and out Stoudt. At least if Dw4 goes out we know the season isn't over

Yes all 3 were much better coming out of HS than Stoudt. Tho with our co-oc's Stoudt proved he could manage a game. The Chad put him in plays he couldn't make. Zerrick Cooper is a better passer his senior year that DW was IMO and that is high praise. DW just has that it factor and he is a winner and born with whatever it is that makes you great at football. Lets hope Cooper is more the same than we think! I love KB and TI I just think ZC is better. Hopefully we find a way to get KB the ball though he is a great runner.

Isreal and Bryant had much better passing statistics their senior years.
Maybe Cooper's arm is like Patrick Sapp's (old folks will understand)?

How is that odd?? You can have good stats in high school that doesn't mean you throw the ball at an NFL standard. Any pro scout would tell you Cooper ha a much better arm and ability to pass the ball than Bryant. Now TI can sling the rock pretty dang good but I would say Cooper has the better arm. He looks alot like a young Famous Jameis Winston.

Number 1 - they aren't playing in the NFL.
And you learned all that from a high school highlight video?
Passing Senior Year Passing YDs 2039 TDs 21 Comp 161 Att 267 Int 4 PCT. .603 Passing YDs 4446 TDs 56 Comp 327 Att 407 Int 11 PCT. .674 Passing YDs 3570 TDs 41 Comp 231 Att 368 Int 10 PCT. .628
Rushing Senior Year Yards 359 Yards 478 AVE 6.4 TDs 4 Yards 720 AVE 5.6 TDs 14
You figure out who's who.
You have stated that Cooper has, BY FAR, a much higher potential than two players that have been in the system for over a year and have much better high school stats against comparable competition.
As I said, Patrick Sapp had one of the strongest arms in Clemson history, and they converted him to a defensive end.
I'll let the coaches figure it out. They know more BY FAR.

Highlights don't prove anything except how good

he was in HS. Lots of guys look like world beaters in HS, then don't measure up once they get to the next level; it happens all of the time. Look, I get it, Cooper looks fantastic, and I would not be one bit surprised to see him start at some point, but to act like it's a given is ridiculous and laughable. It's absurd.

Some people would disagree. Most everyone would disagree on the BY FAR!
Bryant is bigger, stronger and faster. Bryant has a full year in the Clemson system and Bryant had better high school stats - even the senior years. Both were rated as 5.8 by Rivals.

Cooper seems to have a lot of upside for sure, but it would be difficult at best to see him beating anyone currently on the team for the #2 Spot. While the jury is still out on Bryant when he drops back to pass, he will have the edge in the playboy one would imagine. NS should know it inside and backwards and we have zero idea on Tucker Israel except he set the state of Florida on fire himself and has playboy knowledge as well. All that said, I'm very interested in seeing what TI brings to the table. I would imagine if he is stuck at #3 after spring ball he would be looking to transfer. Just my opinion, however with Cooper and the potential inbound guys, it would be his best move if he wants to play.

You don't set the all-time passing record for
the state of Florida, playing at a 7A highschool (Lake Nona) and pass for 4446 yds and 56 TD's his senior year 'cause you're a slouch.
He's had a whole year to prepare, I think he's going to be real competition for Kelly Bryant for #2.
