"I believe we will ultimately be a better program because of this, just as we were after getting humiliated in the Orange Bowl against West Virginia."
After the West Virginia disaster, Dabo fired Kevin Steele and brought in Brent Venables. It was a defining moment in Clemson football.
My question: based on what do we believe that we will be better as a result of the McNeese State disaster?
Clearly the defense was a huge problem that night against WVU. Dabo diagnosed it, made the correct fire and a grand slam hire.
There is no question that coaching shoulders a large share of the blame for the McNeese State disaster. Who is to blame? Who gets fired? Who is the grand slam hire? To me these are more relevant questions than who we bring in from the portal. There must be some change in the coaching staff if we are to be confident at any level that we will be better moving forward.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I still think the scar football loss was more on the offense. The D didn't give up a ton of points. In fairness, the offense got off to a great start, but then they got conservative in the 2nd half, which allowed the coots to get back into the game. It was so frustrating because at the beginning and end of the 2nd half you could see how easily the Tigers could move the ball against them. If they had just kept doing that during those middle 3 possessions, they had a good chance to put the game out of reach, but they chose not to. I don't know if that was more Riley or Dabo or what, and I don't think we ever will.

Impossible. Dabo only hires friends, family, former players, and walk-ons from Daniel.

companies fire people they have hired when they underperform on a regular basis. I'm not sure what you do for a living, but if you are in any kind of leadership role you have likely done the same. So, in short, what's your point?

to take over an executive level position like Dabo did.
That's point number one.
Point number two is that those CEOs would never have been allowed to do it by their fellow managers and board members. But Clemson allowed it, because Dabo is not to be questioned.
Cult behavior at its finest.

Ever heard of Doug McMillon, he was hired onto the executive team at WalMart

who went from a general manager in the Sam's CLub side and was promoted to the executive team at WalMart. Today he the CEO. That's where your point one breaks down.
Do you know what a CEO is, Chief Executive Officer? That means he has no peers in the company. He is the final decision maker. Dabo did it because he felt like it was a good hire. It turned out it was to soon for Wes to assume that role. Five to ten years down the road he may ascend to that position again under Venables. At Clemson, or any other university the board does not often tell a coach no on a hiring decision and when they do that does not go well. No HC worth his salt stays under that scenario. So much for point two.
Blind to his hyper critical nature concerning Dabo, while giving BB a free pass at its finest.

He worked his way up at Walmart, first as a summer job, then as a buyer, manager, and VP. He was promoted from VP to president and CEO of Sam's Club before becoming the CEO of Walmart. That is a far cry from someone like Wes Goodwin who was not even a coach when he was promoted to defensive coordinator.
So much for your retort. Disappointing as expected.

manager at Sam's before being elevated to a VP at WalMart. As usual your research comes up short, if you did any. Also, you don't think defensive analyst was Wes' first job. Like all coaches, he worked his way up. But don't let facts get in the way of your BB defense.

I think that is his point.
The originator of the quote seemed to insinuate that the embarrassment itself of that WVU game is what caused us to be good later, which is at best a misrepresentation. In fact that was what led to the change (someone fired) that led to us being good. If we hadn't fired our DC and hired BV would we have taken it to another level?
So I believe he is positing the same question, after that embarrassing end to the season what change is going to happen to take us to that next level?
If you look at it that way, its a least a fair question to ask.

Point 1: Then why did YOU make the connection between the two? It was unprompted (I think everyone knows what your intent was with that comment) Point 2: It was more than the final score, it was that we lost to McNeese when we were the overwhelming favorite and did so after setting a historic first half Point 3: That came after once again not being able to win more than 1 game in the ACCT Point 4: Equating a nationally ranked WVU with McNeese is a stretch Point 5: This was supposed to be our best BBall team ever. That wasn't Clemson best FB team ever, not McNeese best team ever, but probably was WVU's best team ever Point 6: That was year 3 for our FB HC, this is year 15 for CBB

That's how you get better.
This wasn't a coaching issue as much as it was a talent and depth issue. With that said, you can count on our coaches taking inventory and striving to improve themselves as well.
We have only recently started signing a higher caliber of recruit. That young talent will hopefully develop while we continue utilizing the portal well to address needs.
My suggestion for you is to let the process play out. After last year's historic season, many people here predicted that we would be bad this year and had no hope of being an NCAA Tournament team again. The losses of PJ Hall and Joe Girard were going to be too much to overcome. All we did was set records this year for total wins and have a great season.
Trust the process, as hard as it seems to be for you, rather than resorting to doubt.

Roster management is 100% the coach’s responsibility in college athletics. Brad doesn’t work for a GM who informs him of the draft targets. You are playing semantics to say it was depth not coaching. In college basketball it’s all on the coach and is therefore all under the term “coaching”. Try again.

Girard was a great shooter but a liability on defense. Zachary was a much better all round player. And Lahkin turned out to be a valid replacement for Hall.
