Chase Hunter and his legacy?

Someone posed the question earlier about Chase Hunter and his legacy and how he would be remembered as a Clemson Basketballer. To fully answer that question, you have to remember who/what Chase was when he arrived on campus. He was always athletic, well coordinated, quick and fast. However, he was NOT a basketball player when he got here. He fit the mold of the old Purnell recruits, great athletes but just not skilled, polished basketball players. Chase turned it over a lot off the dribble, threw a lot of ill-advised passes, could never seem to finish off a layup and couldn't throw it in the ocean from medium range. Don't even think about his 3 point shot going in.

Then the past couple of years, this kid has become as good a guard as there is in the ACC. He changed his body through hard work, changed his shot, both the medium range jumper and the 3 to become a scorer. His shooting range is now incredible. He is a tough, tough defender on the ball and off and can rebound with anybody in the country his size. Chase even manages a blocked shot occasionally.......usually in spectacular fashion!

Still makes a silly pass on occasion but for the most part is the man BB goes to when he needs to control the game because Chase has developed his ball skills and floor game to the point where he can be trusted to salt away a game.Looking back on my experiences with Clemson basketball, which began as a local high schooler in the 1960's, I don't know that I remember any player who has improved as much as Chase Hunter from start to finish. He arrived with a skinny body, no shot, erratic floor game and no confidence and Chase will leave Clemson as maybe the top Guard in the ACC this season. Kudos to coach Brownell and his staff in charge of player development and kudos to Chase for putting in the time and effort to change his game, his life and the trajectory of Clemson basketball.

A thoughtful commentary you have made. I have nothing to add except kudos with regards to comparing him to a Purnell recruit when he stepped foot in campus.

Very well said. Don’t forget about his slam dunk ability, too!
