CFP Perception Is Our Reality

I didn’t get a chance to meet too many of my dad’s girlfriends but one that I did was the best Timeshare Sales Person I ever knew. She once said to me me that “the prospect’s perception is your reality…good or bad.”
I took that advice as a young 15 year old and applied it to almost everything in my life. At the time, I was head over heels infatuated with a girl named Brandi. Brandi, unfortunately, was into a guy who was one year older and was the star Kicker on our football team. He was good looking and was getting offers to play for schools like Gardner-Webb and far away places like Missouri State. I really couldn’t compete.
Anyways, I figured the best way to deal with the situation was to change her perception of the guy. I told her that I heard he had herpes and paid a couple people $10 to say the same. Now keep in mind, we were only 15 so this was a year or two before everyone in our class actually had herpes. She thought it was a big deal and would only hook up with him if he wore something. That didn’t last long.
Brandi and I dated for six months after that until her family moved to Tennessee to live with her grandparents.
We are at a pivotal point and need to apply this principal to Clemson Football. Collectively, we need to stop saying bad things about our QB, OC, OL, WR’s and even CDS. We need to all pump them up and tell the world that they are great. We must change everyone’s perception of our team rather than reinforcing it.
Simultaneously, we need to start spreading the word that teams like OSU, Michigan, UT, Alabama, TCU and the rest have herpes, so to speak. Post it on message boards, talk about it in church, tell your customers about it. Heck, even write letters to people in power letting them know. CHANGE THEIR PERCEPTION ABOUT THESE TEAMS. I’ve already registered for six other football message boards to do my part.
If we do this right, we will be knocking on the playoff door again lickety split. It’s up to us now.

While that’s probably true, it’s not what I meant. You should be pointing out that their defense is terrible on 4th down conversion percentage (37th in country) while Clemson ranks 12th….ergo Clemson is the better team.

100% spot on. Most fans don’t watch every game and 75% of the ones that do are probably three sheets to the wind. They could easily be convinced that Michigan has a terrible QB, TCU hasn’t played anyone, Ohio State can’t run the ball, yada yada ya.
If all they hear and read from Clemson fans is how good this team really is, they’ll figure it must be true and vote us up.

Brandi and I had a great six month run. Had I not done what I did, we would have never shared ice cream on the Ferris Wheel in Myrtle Beach or kissed on a rented petal boat on Hartwell.
