the “no loyalty to the school or program” is a huge turn off for me. Our players love the paw journey and most come back years later (just look at the Levon Kirkland news today) because they still love Clemson.
Loyalty is a 2 way street and fans/boosters are loyal to players too. Nil won’t run itself. It requires fans/boosters to fund it and it would be a lot more difficult for schools to get the funding if fans feel disconnected or tired of this no loyalty stuff.

Big Dave....being a horror (phonetically speaking since gawd forbid me from spelling it the correct way) is a business decision too but no need to be so giddy and promote it like it's the best thing ever.

I don't see it as an old school/new school divide. The fault line's around everyone's prorities.
Dabo Swinney sparked a fire in many not because of the wins, but how he elevated the brand, which is nothing more than a promise based on a set of beliefs.
Now, we're seeing the alchemy between his culture and the great NIL cash grab. Can one mix with the other.
So far, it seems to not be coming off very well to a lot of people who're tired of giving to a machine that never stops asking for more and gives less and less in return.
That Big Dave saw it and called it doesn't make him a mercenary. He's a realist who knows these programs will use these kids up and throw them out with yesterday's lettuce. So why not get 'em paid in the process.
And as long as we pay for the tickets, tailgates, merch and the like, they'll keep shoveling it by the ton.

I suppose this is what disgusts me the most about the whole thing. The school showed their loyalty and commitment to a player by offering a FOUR year full scholarship. The player, in turn, showed their loyalty by accepting, being the student-athlete, performing on the field and in the classroom. Which would give the player an education and a shot, just a shot at turning their sport into a profession.
Enter NIL. The fans-boosters are now in the equation of loyalty. Show me the love or I'm outta here. NIL is the evil, the portal has become the means to capitalize on that. And here's how. It's emotional blackmail. Y'all want a championship? Y'all wanna keep beating your rival? Y'all wanna stay competitive? Then you HAVE to do it. You gotta ante up or the game will pass you by. Your friends or co-workers will make fun of you because your team is no longer in the Big-Time football business. I don't agree with the premise that this has been going on a long time, now it's just above board. This is way, WAY beyond a booster slipping a little something a players way.
