Many years ago, before my bottle collection got melted in my parents house fire, I used to have a "snake oil" medicine bottle from around 1900. The "Elixer" was good for all sorts of ills, according to the label. Most notably, it cured BILLIOUSNESS, which is a fancy way of saying GAS!

You pass gas more each time you do it than the last.
Example: 1st fart is 1 second long, 2nd fart 2 seconds, 3rd fart 4 seconds, 4th fart 8 seconds (now you’re really cookin!!!)……
