Never happen but how beautiful if everyone stopped supporting college athletics until they got some kind of enforcement in place, especially for the stupid portal. I know it would be hard choice to do. Another fantasy is how lovely it would be if everyone outside SEC/big 10 got together and formed a new alliance and refuse to schedule anyone from the those two ESPN prima donnas
Now back to reality. It’s just everything seems so corrupt lately and all we do is lie here and take it.

Definitely agree that it will never happen…unfortunately.
Here’s why: Us dinosaurs who hate it are too addicted to it to go away.
And the younger generations seem to think it’s all great now. No appreciation for what college sports was supposed to be.

I can assure you it is not just the younger generation who thinks things are just fine. When Labor Day weekend gets here, get off your high horse of doom, watch the big opening weekend football games and I promise you they will still use a ball, still have 11 on 11, still block and tackle and the game will look the as it did before the Portal was invented. Try it, you might see the error of your ways.

Not doom here at all friend. No, I won't be watching the opening games. I quit watching most games that don't directly involve our Tigers. It's for the same reason I quit watching Pros decades ago. Zero interest in colleges now becoming mini pro leagues. But again, not gloom. I just don't center my entire week around college football like I used to.

Yep. College football for many many years was almost all-consuming. Driving 3 hours from the other side of Atlanta for every game, then back again after the game was over. Tents, tables, TVs, batteries for TV, satellite dish for TV so we could watch all the other games before and after ours. Gameday. Watch recaps and replays on Sunday. Watch Thursday night games, Friday night games.
COVID showed us that staying home and watching on a huge TV was almost as good as being there, especially as we get older and less happy about lugging tons of stuff around and sitting in boiling sun or freezing rain.
The paying of players, portal free-agency, and the whole "we're being exploited" and the "you're all racists" stuff really knocked a lot of the shine off the apple, too.
Nowadays, we manage to take in the Clemson games and then get back to all the other things we're doing on Saturday. Barely care about any other games. 100% not watching Gameday or wrap-up shows.

being a season ticket holder and IPTAY member. I'm sure there will be someone waiting, more than willing to scoop up my tickets.
I AM addicted to the Clemson friends and family football game day experience. My plan is to make my rounds during tailgating and see everyone I want to see. I'll go to a game occasionally.
I just don't have the connection to the team that I used to have - I'm not interested in cheering for kids who are attending Clemson because we outbid everyone else.
Dabo did the best he could to fight it - or I probably would have done this 2 years ago.

Alliance's LMAO! It worked until the B1G wised up and said why are we aligning with the two weaklings and their clown leaders the PAC and the ACC.
However I believe it will not be long until the B1G and the SEC stop playing footsies and one stabs the other in the back. I think the B1G will eventually flex their muscles over being a national conference with their three big network partners over the more regional SEC.

One of the reasons we should be trying to get in with the B1G.

As time marches on things will continue to change to become the new norm for a brief while. Then change will happen again. We can choose to adapt or not, that’s on us. But as long as we keep our minds we can always remember and that can’t be taken away.
For now, Come on football season.

I still watch Clemson when I can but the joy of watching teams outside the ACC just isn’t there anymore. Aside from the Super Bowl I don’t think I’ve watched a complete NFL game in years. I’ve enjoyed watching college baseball more as well. College basketball is still watchable but I haven’t sat down to watch the NBA in over 20 yrs. I did start watching a bit of hockey and lacrosse though during those times slots. Nil, portal and primadonas have all but ruined it for me.

Let me add that if Dabo filled his roster like many do by keying on the portal transfers my interest in Clemson football would be on a big decline. So thank you Dabo for building a team the right way.

NFL games at this point are a lot more fun the College games. They take 3 hours not four and everyone is aware it is about football only not pretending to be interested in academics

It shouldn't be any harder for a student to switch than a coach.

and fans enter into the fray in attempts to level the playing field.
It cannot exist in a format where two conferences dominate the conversation, so to speak, for some very significant programs, like ours, will be left out, and that isn't going to cut bait.
Hence, I believe an eventual reorganization will arise, more geographically-oriented, of four super conferences, north, south, east and west, perhaps of 18-20 teams each. A new playoff formula will come about, kind of like the NFL's. The term student-athlete will disappear, and we'll have paid players with salary caps and so on. Hopefully, the players will understand that most will never play higher-level pro ball and will see the value of furthering their education.
