The killer - a right-winger - was on social media prior to the killing, talking about how he wanted to have a confrontation with protesters, and getting violent with them.
He drove into a protest parade agressively and unprovoked, and shot a guy holding an assault rifle, then claimed it was in self-defense (liar, of course).
If the opposite occurred, and it had been a left-winger killing a right-wing protester in the exact same way, no way Abbott would've pardoned him.
This was a MAGA "We're OK with politically motivated murder against the left" signal.

Looks like the OP neglected to read the final 3 paragraphs before offering his opinions using the linked article as his reference.
Here are the final 3 paragraphs:

Mr. Perry is an Uber driver; it is not unreasonable that he recognized a business opportunity to evacuate paying customers who had become concerned about being in the proximity of a protest that had obvious risk of becoming violent (as evidenced by a protester carrying a AK-47).
Finally, even if Mr. Perry is a racist, that doesnât prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he wasnât acting in self defense when he shot the guy who pointed his AK-47 at him.
Maybe Perry intended to commit manslaughter. Maybe he as acting in self-defense. Beyond reasonable doubt is the standard before convicting a person of a crime. Governor Abbott, a man whom I hold in low esteem, made a âreasonable doubt = no convictionâ decision.

He sent all those disgusting racist and pro-violence social media posts weeks before he killed the victim. Not three years....more like a week or two.
His posts were in spring/summer of 2020. His murder of Garrett Foster occurred in 2020. His conviction was in 2023 for a murder he committed in 2020. His frame of mind entering the night of the murder shows he was full of hate for these people, and wanted to commit violence.
This blows your post completely out of the water.

Perry was convicted by a jury.
Abbott wanted to pardon him from day one, and that's strictly because he's a right-winger who killed a protester....and we all know how much the right fantasizes about killing protesters.

And this all happened after Perry had been talking online about doing violence to protesters, and had made racist comments as well.
Not speculation. And it was enough to convince 12 jurors.
Abbott's pardon was based purely on politics and nothing else.
