We have had less, but we have not done more. Saban has 6 national titles at Alabama, three in the playoff era.

Every game is a possibility, that's clear. We haven't played anybody but Georgia; the rest were mediocre to poor. We've struggled despite a significant talent advantage. No way we've had that many recruiting misses, the star metric remains a good measure. Roster management, attrition, and possibly an atmosphere of arrogance and complacency within the program are the seeds of our sudden fall. We've stepped off a cliff, no dove head first.

If you can't see that by now I don't know what to tell you. Do you really think this team can just show up and win at Louisville or beat Wake? You think we can go ahead and pencil in a bowl win?

I say if they had our QBs they wouldn't be finishing 12-2 this season. Would they possibly do a better job than our coaching staff? Maybe. Would they turn water into wine and make DJ a star? Nope.

Nope we aren't. They recruit at a higher level and they have better OC's continuously. We are a team that can give them problems though. They are obviously in a league of their own though. It's like this now IMO.
Tiers
1. Bama 2. Georgia is there now, Ohio State, Clemson (If you take way this year) 3. Who knows.

We played them just a few seasons ago..
We scored 44. They scored 16.
Seems our OC was four touchdowns better than theirs.

Yep, sometimes we are just better. It happens in sports. We were better. Saban adapts and their offensive play calling is better than ours overall. The game evolved, as did Saban. Shockingly, even the best coaches lose games though.

They were already using an "evolved" offense that year.

We were better coached.
Our offense has been better than theirs for the bulk of the CFP era. Ours fell off last year when the OL couldn't block for a talent like Etienne, but we did still have the best passing offense in Clemson history. The only reason they finished ahead of us last year was because they have the best OL in college football and were able to balance out their offense with a rushing attack.
We have nowhere near the talent and depth of Alabama, and several other teams for that matter, but somehow we've won more games, more playoffs games, and more national championships than anyone in America save Alabama. That's been due in large part to an innovative offense that basically nobody has been able to stop. Until this season, we've been one of the most consistent offenses in the country, and that's why Elliott has been rated as a top OC by virtually every 3rd party in America.

I would take Lane Kiffin as our OC over Tony, if Lane Kiffin fit the culture and just wanted to be an OC. I would take his ability though. I am not a fan of TE and wasn't last year either. JMO

85 man roster talent for the last 6 or 7 years: OSU, Georgia, Bama are a tier above all-more money, geographical location, more conservative with scholarships-

So I guess we'll just settle for 2nd best.
We didn't forget how to coach in one off-season. This team and program will be back.

We will be back and that's why we are right up there in my rankings. Bama is alone and there are a few us that can do it on any given year. We are all chasing Bama. That's what I am seeing.

Isn't Bama the best team of the playoff era? I don't think anyone outside of a random Clemson fan would disagree with that. Most Clemson fans would agree too. They have 3 National Titles in that era. We have 2. Their program is in better shape at the moment too. We have done great though. We will do great again. We are chasing Bama though at the moment, as is everyone.

Keep complaining. Bama wandered in the coaching desert

for DECADES after Bear Bryant, before things got good again. Dabo deserves far more respect than he is getting from the majority posting on here right now.
These same ones were wringing their hands in the latter stages of the Tommy Bowden era, saying, "But, if we fire HIM, who can we get that is BETTER?"
And then, "We should have gone for a BIG NAME coach. Yabba Dabo Doo, he is just a no talent cheerleader!"
Then the cheerleader led us to six straight playoff appearances, TWO National Championships, which were both earned, by the way, over the coach and team that EVERYONE considers the absolute gold standard.
All those accomplishments didn't even get him a half season of grace. I wouldn't blame him if he walked out the door tomorrow. But, if I read him right at all, I would bet money that wherever HE goes, Brent Venables is right behind him.
Then, after all the hand wringers have their moment of cheering that the cheerleader is gone, reality will set in. If we stupidly run Dabo off, or make him WANT to leave, the wilderness we will wander in before getting back to relevancy will make our struggles after Danny Ford was ousted look like a day trip.
