This season Clemson played only two conference games! Thanks to Clemson and Maryland telling their conference to pound sand in 1951, Clemson was on probation and played only two conference games in 1952. Clemson is ready to leave the Southern Conference!
And Don King sets a Freshman rushing record at Fordham!

“When Clemson and Maryland defied the Southern Conference's ban on postseason games by participating in bowl games after the 1951 season, the conference placed both schools on probation for one year and imposed a football scheduling boycott against them. Accordingly, Clemson was able to play games against only two conference opponents in 1952: Maryland (also on probation) and South Carolina (the annual "Big Thursday" rivalry game was set by the South Carolina Legislature and was therefore exempted from the boycott).
George Rodgers was the captain of the 1952 Clemson team. The team's statistical leaders included tailback Don King with 317 passing yards and fullback Red Whitten with 445 rushing yards. Four players tied for the scoring leadership with 18 points each: Don King, Red Whitten, tailback Billy Hair, and wingback Buck George.
Three Clemson players were named to the All-South Carolina football team for 1952: Billy Hair, tackle Earl Wrightenberry, and guard Tom Barton.
Clemson did not return to the Southern Conference, opting in June 1953 to leave the conference along with Duke Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest in forming the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).”

“Nov. 8, 1952 – Don King, making his first and only career start at tailback, rushed for 234 yards on 33 carries in Clemson’s 12-12 tie at Fordham. The performance is still a record for a Clemson freshman and still stands as the third-highest single-game total in Clemson history. King, who had 240 rushing yards in the first half and -6 in the second half, was substituting for injured tailback Billy Hair and returned to quarterback the next week. He never played tailback again.”

There is no #73 for Clemson this year so I am going back to cover a player I haven’t covered yet.
Todays player spotlight is #90 Stephiylan (STEPH-eye-linn) Green. He is a redshirt sophomore DT for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.
Green is an “Emerging interior defender who enters 2025 credited with 17 tackles (2.5 for loss), one sack and a pass breakup in 319 defensive snaps over 14 career games in his true freshman and redshirt freshman seasons.” This season, Green should be a good replacement for the NFL bound Payton Page. His size on the interior line (6-foot-4, 290-pounds) should give him a boost at the line of scrimmage.
In high school, Green “Helped Rome (HS) to 12-2 record in 2022 when the team reached the Georgia state semifinals … part of a squad that finished ranked 16th in the state by MaxPreps … had strong senior season with 68 tackles, 25 of which were tackles behind the line of scrimmage … contributed 10 sacks and two interceptions and a 32-yard interception return touchdown in 2022… played defensive tackle and defensive end … all-state honoree as a junior and senior … named all-region his final three years … had 43 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and a sack, and two pass breakups as a sophomore in 2020”.
