Anyone surprised at Dabo's take?

May 11, 2022, 2:41 PM

Fits in nicely with these prior jewels.

"It don't matter."

"Just tell us who we're playing and when and where and we'll be there."

Go Tigers.

Yep, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will some how help in getting the coots off of our every year schedule, with it being called a rivalry game. The coots haven't been good enough the past decade to be classified as an out of conference RIVAL game.

With Clemson being in the ACC, Clemson don't need to be playing any of our Instate schools like the Citadel, SC State, and the coots that drags an already weak strength of schedule down anymore than playing in the ACC. And at the end of a season, it's embarrassing hearing the truth about how weak our schedule is year in and year out. I hope that if any changes are made with the ACC scheduling, that it will be with us playing 7, no more than 8 conference games, with the door open for Clemson to have 4 or 5 strong out of conference games on our schedule. Iron sharpens Iron, and playing the coots, Citadel, and SC State only cause our team to get dull, and not prepared to face the stronger teams like we usually face in the playoffs.

I think that if we had much stronger out of conference teams to play against before this NIL thing that's ruining college FB, we probably would have never lost a playoff game, and would have been a sharper tougher team in the championship games that we played in, and the ones that we failed to get in, just my honest opinion!!!

the continuous streak, that was the end of that. They are nothing. Screw the coots.

I agree with dropping SC State and adding Coastal in the SC rotation along with The Citadel and Furman.
One early game in the season is OK with that group, and the coots for the last game.
The coots are interesting, because they occasionally beat Georgia and other SEC teams, and they lose to The Citadel occasionally as well!! So with two games against SC opponents, and 8 in the ACC, that would leave us with 2 other games which would include Notre Dame, and the rotating Big 10 and PAC 12 games so our schedule would be pretty full and challenging.

Don't mind having Ga Tech and NC State every year, along with Florida State, but that lets some teams have an easy ride I can see UNC getting Wake, Duke, and UVA every year.

I do want to see Clemson play VA Tech, Pitt, UNC, and Miami more often and less of Syracuse and Louisville. BC tends to be a good game.

Getting the best two teams in the ACC championship game is a key to a meaningful game. Many years that would have been Clemson vs FSU. Like our game with ND last year. So we can do away with the divisions, no big loss and the best two teams settle the ACC in the championship.

He’s right, it doesn’t matter…

Primarily because the ACC (and others) may not exist for much longer…

Will schools have any say in the 3 permanent rivals? If not, we could have Ga. Tech, Florida State and Miami every year and Carolina could have Duke, NC State, and Wake every year. Is that balanced, maybe maybe not. There will be yelling and screaming from schools as soon as the first schedule comes out.

Miami wouldn't make sense as a permanent opponent for us. GTech is probably a lock and FSU is also very likely. Third could be a number of different teams, but I think NCSU would be the most likely.

Here is our all-time record against current ACC members, ranked by games played:

NC State 59-29-1
Wake Forest 69-17-1
Georgia Tech 34-50-2
North Carolina 38-19-1
Duke 37-16-1
Virginia 40-8-1
Virginia Tech 23-12-1
Florida State 14-20
Boston College 20-9-2
Miami 6-6
Syracuse 8-2
Louisville 7-0
Pittsburgh 2-3

Yes. Love shrinking that losing record margin against GT and FSU. Keep playing those two every year for sure.

Miami will get FSU, VT and probably another former Big East rival like BC. Remember BC and SU were the original bait to get Miami to leave the Big East. I suspect Clemson's third will be NCSU or Wake.

None of this matters much at all.... because soon....

May 11, 2022, 4:32 PM

.... there won't be any conferences as we currently know them. I said this over a year ago. Soon, there will be 30-40 teams who can afford to compete at a higher level than all the rest. Those teams will form some version of a league with a playoff system. All the others (the "real" ROY bus teams) will still adhere to something that looks like the current system. NIL has only made this more inevitable. Just my humble opinion.

Of course. I cannot understand how so many people are just

naive or somehow fail to see the impact of the NIL. Say, there's a 5-star LB in NC, a bigtime stud, the kinda kid we would normally sign. Especially if we can get his family in on a visit. We sell them on the small-town campus, the family atmosphere, the focus on academics and players graduating, etc. You can play bigtime football here, compete for nat'l titles, and still be prepared for life... with or without football. The odds of making an NFL roster are still extremely small...

But now, he takes a visit to Sou Cal, and has Hollywood-type marketing people putting together presentations, showing what his dollar value might be in Los Angeles area. (Oh, is that LeBron calling again, tell him I'll call him back, I'm busy right now). He goes to Ohio State and they do the same thing. Oh yeah, you can imagine what kind of dollars are projected when he visits Texas, and all the deep pocket oilmen are buddying up to him and his family...

16 and 17 year old kids... AND THEIR FAMILIES (who may not have 2 nickels to rub together, as the saying goes)... you don't think their heads are spinning at the possibilities of the big bucks and numbers being thrown around? Of course they are. Clemson? Well, lets see... we can take him to Mac's for a cheeseburger plate with all the fixins...

Dabo has two reasons for it:
It’s one of the 5 team goals and allows them to hang a banner
Probably some contract incentive for winning the division

Otherwise he doesn’t really care who he plays as long as he gets to pick up an SEC pelt or two every year

Changing the team goal and contract incentive to reaching acc championship games takes care of that.

So the goal of win the division becomes earn a spot in the ACCCG. Pretty much same goal.

Shame that didn't do that years ago when Clemson and FSU were the only 2 good ACC Teams. ACC title game need to start moving to different site instead of just Panther Stadium Charlotte. Rotate 4 locations Death Valley, Panther Stadium, Falcon Stadium in Atlanta and one of the bowl stadium in Florida. Clemson would set attendance record first ACC Title Game in Death Valley.

I love this idea and have been wanting to see it for years. Especially if FSU, NCST & GT are our 3 permanents and Miami & UNC in one pod of 5 and VT & Louisville in the other. This would give us a pretty solid schedule every year.

Would also love to see the SEC do the same thing. If they did, the Coots already slim chances of winning the SEC would be virtually eliminated. There’s no way in heck they would ever be one of the best two teams in that conference at the end of the regular season to make it to the SECCG.
