Yeah, I've listened to several different broadcasts/pundits or whatever you want to call them. They're really high on Louisville transfer class. At least one rated them as the number 1 class. But, yeah, they broke down the influx and I can see why they're touting them.

But who cares what they say, right? I sure as h e ll don't care what they say bc they don't coach anywhere, they don't recruit any players, and they don't play on any team anywhere!!!

No portal signees = -9 spots?
These "Way Too Early Top 25" are more fitting to be used as toilet paper anyway, but go ahead and print that out for the bulletin board.

No portal signees plus several portal departures. Pat Forde is right in that Clemson remains a one-way street with the transfer portal

So what that its one way? Dabo recruits in the living room, and based on 2025 it's getting better. Who wants to go to a school that then portal players jump in front of? Its BS. Dabo is doing his thing. Have you coached successfully? C'mon. Give the guy some faith. Hes earned it over the last decade. And who have we lost that's been great? They guys we lose aren't really playing anyway and clearly dont see a path to it getting better. Dabo says ALL IN. I'm all in.

2025's class is great! Ranked #2 right now.
This was about the 2024 class though, to be clear.
We lost one of our most productive receivers & RB's, not to mention Xavier Thomas & more without adding replacements while other programs added more including top-shelf players, but I'm only trying to answer your question is all.
I still think we beat Syracuse for the ACC title outright, make no mistake. Go Tigers!

This babble is pure gibberish. This is a question of how good will we be in 2024. The class of 2025 has nothing to do with it.
Last year, we went 9-4 with some ugly losses, but we ended strong, as the writer recognized. However, there's no doubt our offense was bad and our defense won us those games. After the season, we lost several major players to the draft plus portal. To the draft, we lost Nate Wiggins (our best player on the team), Trotter (our best linebacker), a good corner in Jones, four of our top defensive linemen in Tyler, Ruke, Xavier, and Demonte, and Shipley (not as good as Mafah, but a very good all around athlete for us). Anyone who acts like those are all easy to replace is a moron.
To the portal, we lost one of our better defensive players in Mukuba. Pride wasn't a superstar, but he was a starter for us we lost. Beaux is in the same boat. I personally think he was a disappointment, but he started for us. So we lost three starters to the portal. That's big. We lost seven other players to the portal. Some of those weren't starters, but were important depth. Sage and Lannden Zanders are probably the most notable, but Hunter Helms was our second best quarterback. We didn't sign any to replace them.
Now, the class of 2024 does have some promising players in it, three specifically. However, Sammy Brown is not going to be able to waltz in and replace Trotter immediately. I hope Wesco and Moore are the receivers that finally let us claw out of our offensive slump. But it's extremely rare for wide receivers to stand out as true freshmen. Of all our incredible receivers, the only difference makers as freshmen were Sammy Watkins, Justin Ross, and to a lesser extent Renfrow. Most concerning is that we signed no notable linemen. So we had one of the worst offensive lines in football. We lost some of our better linemen, and signed 3 3 stars to replace them. I am as hopeful as you that our new O-line coach will work magic, but there doesn't seem to be a lot to work with right now.
So you're basically wrong on every level. You can be all in and want Clemson to win. I obviously know the entire team well as you see and want us to be dominant. But it's not crazy to think when you're recruiting top 15-20 classes, and losing a bunch of your better players, that you might not be better than top 15-20.

I guess recruiting rankings don't mean as much with all the portal transfer business. You could finish 10 spots higher than team X but by the time team X gets done with the portal that changes things. 🙁

Judge when you pay them guys any attention at all, that makes you less knowledgeable than they are with ranking teams. How many end of season ranking turn out the way they say it will at the beginning or before the season starts. 99.99 and 3/4% of them don't even come close to being right when the season ends!!! They are totally wrong with how they said teams would be ranked!!!

I believe Demonte Capehart is still on the team. I think w/ the young guys from last year plus Capehart the D-line has a chance to be a strength again. Could use more depth though. Young DBs looked really good. Wish they had picked up a DE somewhere. I think secondary will be fine. OL, QB, RB (depth) are concerning. Hoping that the WRs will improve. I think we’ll be in the top 3 in the conference. Don’t know if we’ll win it though.

You're right on Capehart. Scrivener's error.
And I agree. We're still very talented. I could see a top 3 ACC finish for sure. I don't think it's impossible we win the ACC, since it is a very weak conference. But people are mocking the guy thinking we might finish #19 in the country. That's not insane given recent years and what our roster looks like. Especially since I think most people believe we're going to start with an L, maybe a bad one.

You gotta laugh at these poor wretched souls. Its amazing how butt hurt they are about Dabo not liking the portal. This is just wishful thinking on the part of the portal loving community. Maybe one of these guys can actually just line up the talent team for team and compare regardless of portal use. Probably never going to happen but I really like our guys talent wise with exception of OL

How do you measure "talent"? If it's on the field results, then I think we're ranked right where we should be.
If it's recruiting rankings of players that are still on the team, then we should be doing better as 247 had us at #5 entering the 2023 season. They haven't released 2024 yet, but I would guess we'll be in the 8-12 range.

I hear you on Coach Swinney not using the portal not being determinant for Clemson having success.
You're insisting though that adding even top-shelf players in the portal cycle shouldn't matter outright? I don't get that part I guess is all (& in the meantime we lost some key contributors too).
For what it's worth, I disagree with Louisville winning the ACC & I think instead Clemson beats Syracuse in Charlotte for the ACC title.

"It’s harder for me to envision a 9-4 team making a huge jump with no talent infusion besides freshmen."
Obviously Mandell has lost his perspective. If you have watched any football in the last 20 years there have been amazing seasons from teams that had an infusion of high level freshmen talent, including our very own 2011 team going from 6-7 to 10-4 and winning the ACC title for the first time in 20 years. Go Tigers!!!

2024 is a watered down group of players who lost to average to bad Duke, NCSU and Miami. Until Dabo proves he can develop and elevate these guys, the national mood will be skepticism. Looking forward to Dabo proving the media skeptics wrong, making the playoffs, and dominating in 2024 Game 1 playoff win.
If that does not happen, Dabo needs to recalibrate his modus operandi.

So the article's quote implies Clemson will lose to Louisville at home after a bye-week while Louisville is coming off a road game at Boston College & a consecutive stretch that includes at Notre Dame (who is also in this projection in spite of one of them losing this game), SMU, at Virginia & Miami?
I disagree in spite of the recruiting ranking is all. Clemson has no bye-week opponents, no trips to CA, & no ND.
We're going to the ACC title game & maybe it is a rematch with UL or FSU.

Out of curiosity I took a look at the preseason Massy ratings and we are essentially similarly ranked. . Also of note is that these ratings are little more than carryover rankings from last year as you'll notice there is little to no movement amongst most teams.
This is likely a good indicator of where we will start the season as the coaches poll and AP are in virtual lock step to begin the season.
Whether ( fair ) or otherwise it's apparent they give no credit for our coaching changes and the immediate impact we are logically expecting. That's an error but they have taken the " I'm from Missouri " viewpoint and we will have to show them on the field.
However , what may be somewhat troublesome to most is we play Georgia right out of the gate
If you notice in these same rankings Georgia DOES make a jump. If we can defeat them we will become instant contenders and likely recognize a jump of ten spots or more.
We can absolutely ill afford a blowout loss that would drop us out of the top 25 altogether
And with a SOS ( 57 ) ranking would necessitate a victory over FSU and blowout wins of far lesser talented opponents

I hear you, & I don't disagree, but to be fair they did explicitly mention the coaches, notably with Riley being the #1-rated OC & taking a step back with essentially the same talent is all.
We can afford a loss to Georgia and still control our own destiny to the playoff outright, make no mistake. While I'd love to beat UGA, a loss would also have benefits, & certainly more than Georgia if they lose instead.
SOS is incidental; it used to matter, but now we control our own destiny regardless. We have no bye-week opponents (again), we don't play ND or Syracuse, we don't go to CA, & we have just 4 true road games. I see far more advantages for us & from the league than I see disadvantages of rankings like this changing because other teams did things while we just kinda stayed the same through this cycle is all.

We are also replacing them with Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who chose to stick it out here and develop further rather than jump ship and seek greener pastures elsewhere. Were these guys from other programs they would check your 'proven vet' box, but alas they are merely Tiger vets.

I think we deserve to be around 15th-20th to start the season, but not because we don't have any portal players. Let Louisville have the scabs... we'll take the committed players. All we have to do is prove ourselves next year, and the rest will take care of itself. Go Tigers!!! Beat Georgia!!!
