My lawn mower saga continues.

Now viewers, where we last left off, I was struggling to get my new Makita mower. Physically, that is. Home Depot had no problem collecting my money, but delivery the mower presented something of a challenge. First order, the order system did not communicate with the shipping system. Second order, the shipper (FedEx) damaged the mower during shipping, and when it said "delivered" what it actually meant was delivered back to shipper. Finally, the third order made it.
Unfortunately (sorry Obed®), the mower didn't cut it. (HAHA!) Firstly, the estimated battery life was nowhere near the stated 1.2 acre range. Secondly, when the first battery died after cutting maybe half the front yard, the mower died and did not automatically switch to the second battery as was supposed to happen. Even swapping battery places didn't help. I am leaving ample margin that the error was mine, but seeing as how the battery life was not going to work, I decided another call to support to get it sorted was a waste of time, and it was going back. It did get hung up in deeper grass once, which was also a red flag for what I needed it to do in order to be a worthwhile replacement. I am sure it would have made an excellent mower (assuming it works) for a smaller or less hilly yard, but with the high price tag (even with 20% discount for the shipping errors), I needed something that could get the job done in one go.

Obed, fwiw, I still make love to my trimmer on a weekly basis.
Enter the Honda HRXHYA. This is an upgrade to my current Honda push, which I very much love and has been a true workhorse for seven years. However, when I bought it when we first got the house, I both didn't really know much mower I needed for this grass and it, as might as it is, was underpowered.
I was very excited to get this mower, but as soon as they pulled it off the truck, I knew I was looking for trouble. The box looked like YeahBuddy's dinger after breaking up with the redhead but still tryna get one last throw for the road. And sure enough, as soon as I opened it, I saw that the deck was straight sliced where there was a big cut in the box. So, another call to Home Depot. Another reorder. Another 10% discount. And the replacement is on its way. Now, I'm just waiting to see if UPS will actually be coming by today to pick up the old one.

I just don't get Home Depot's shipping. They have now smoked more than $2k in product from FedEx damaging it during shipping. I get that the manufacturer packaging is probably built for shipping in containers where they're not getting moved long distances as single units, but hfs. If this is happening to me, as one consumer, how much product are they losing? It's like they need to invent some special rails or something for them. Had the same issue trying to get a replacement air fryer. At one point I literally had four damaged air fryers in the house because each one arrived dinged up from shipping.
I will keep you posted.
In a spot of good news, I put the old Honda on FB Marketplace, and sold it in four hours for half of what I paid after seven years of use.

things like a particular tiger paw can be programmed and then the robo mower cuts/rolls the design into the grass. I've seen wilder on baseball fields, I don't know how it is done, but if they figured this out then the mowers would practically sell themselves.

Worked excellent, with good battery life. Found out in February it was recalled because it could catch fire. Fast forward a month and I have a brand new version that works even better. Batteries have lost some life, but going into my 4th mowing season with OG batteries seems good to me.

It cuts his grass all the time until the batteries go dead, then it goes back to its cradle and recharges. He said sometimes he'll hear it outside at midnight cutting the grass. I guess it does it in the rain, too? I dunno.
I need to look into one of those.

worked in 2 years. WHen I tried to get it repaired, all the repair shops told me the parts were so backed up, it would take 12 months to get it fixed (one shop wouldn't even take it because they had so many) so I had to buy an EGO. Both of them suck. I might try and see if the Ryobi is on a recall though, would love to get some money out of it. Replace and sell one of the working ones.

I recently had to clean the goo out of the carburetor on the mower that my brother uses to cut my mother's yard. That mower was manufactured in 2006. I couldn't easily find new carb gaskets for it, so I reused the one that was on it. Still cranks on 2nd pull.
I also changed the oil (I think that was the first time ever), and put a new blade on it. I think that was the 3rd blade.

it sits in the garage and the smell of gas permeating through the garage would cause wife to have a heart attack and I wasn't building/buying a shed to store a gas can and lawn mower in on my postage stamp yard.

The one I mentioned and the one I bought from my buddy for cutting my grass (because I fired my grass guys for being hungover and terrible at cutting grass).
The only time I smelled gas in the house was when I was rebuilding the carburetor.

the weed eater, hedge trimmer, tiller, chainsaw. Works great except I'm down to one original battery - tried a $50 knockoff from Amazon cause I didn't want to spend $150 on a separate Ryobi battery (and I don't need another tool that comes with one), it died after a few uses....

Sorry it didn’t work out, although I suspect it would have been ok after getting through that first mow of 7” looking grass.

I do park it with the engine underneath a trailer so it might get a little protection. Anyway, cranks up on the first pull every time. I only use it for a side yard that my zero turn won't fit in. So, get a Honda gas push mower - HTH...

The engine was flawless; the body of the mower fell apart in the two years I owned it.
