I'm about a month shy of quitting Twitter cold-turkey. I've only posted once (I think) since then, and it wasn't political in nature. I've only checked it once or twice, too, and I think it was related to draft.

My mood is better. My anxiety (which was already low) is almost non-existent. My political apathy is through the roof.

It's not that I've given up on America, or the direction of the country. I haven't. But being plugged in on Twitter, or whatever social media platform, isn't relevant at all to that. I'll still see the news when it comes up on my phone. I'll still check drudge about once a day. What I did do was remove myself from a system intentionally designed to prey upon and manipulate my emotions.

The hardest part was letting go of my "network," which as it turns out, nobody really missed me. And, if I need to get with them, I still have my account that I can use. I just don't use it.

So, I'm telling you this human to human. With no partisan or political agenda in mind. Unplug yourself. Stop feeding the system that's feeding upon you. It's worse that a pr0nography addiction, and that's intentional.

Sign off of twitter. Instagram. TikTok. Whatever it is that you use to "stay aware" of politics. And I promise you your life will improve. You'll have more time for the stuff that matters. You'll spend less time and emotional energy on stuff that absolutely does not.

Try it for a week. See how it goes. That week quickly turned into a month for me, and I have no desire to go back.

I tend to agree, but it's different for different people.

Like TikTok, for example, they have an excellent algorithm. As such, I see literally ZERO political crap on TikTok. Like ZERO.

I kind of brush aside politics, as I see it completely differently than when I was a "political science" major in college. Once you live enough life and realize people are people, and experiences are different, and results WILL vary, you kind of understand "politics", in the US, is just toxic if you take a side. The people who take politics seriously, who live and breathe it, they're dangerous IMHO, because they see it for MORE than it really is.

I'm fine with liberal people in liberal places, being liberal. I also am fine with conservative people, in conservative places, being conservative. THIS IS OPTIMAL, despite what politicians tell you. Pick a side, and foist that belief and mindset on everyone, you get SUBoptimal results.

If everyone understood this, America would be a better place, MUCH better.

The best way to accomplish this is to embrace republicanism, not the political party, the idea of diverse governemnt in diverse places, in a diverse country placating the masses.

Worst 6 weeks of my life

Really don’t do much social media other than TigerNet and things people send me. I always follow the rule that everyone is FOS except me _,and my insights are brilliant rays of truthiness to enlighten and warm an uninformed reader. After posting, I usually fall asleep like an old cat in a sun spot only to awaken and realize the sun has moved. Then the conundrum, does the old cat move or just close its eyes and fall back asleep?

I have a twitter account, but not sure I've ever actually tweeted anything.

It's for reading tweets that get texted to me, basically. About 1 out of every 5 or so, I may scroll down and look at a few replies, and then I'm quickly reminded of what a cesspool that platform actually is, and I gtfo.

I doomscroll dumb videos on FB more than I should, but it's just a timekiller, and it's getting progressively more and more taken over by bots. Whiskey pages are the only remaining utility I get out of it anymore. FB could die on the vine if those pages could be replaced somewhere else, as far as I'm concerned. Don't TikTok or IG, besides links sent to me.

Good advice. Thanks for sharing your experience on that. I barely watch the news now. Just enough to make sure I didn’t miss an earthquake that sank Australia or something. I do read a few things on this board just for kicks but I think I agree that even that small amount is not healthy and a waste of time and energy. With that said I’m doing as you suggested. No more posting here for me. I’ll spend my free time hiking a trail somewhere as I did today. Best of luck.

I am going back to basics…which for me, means books. Just books and more books. The X platform is a mess, and it’s just getting more and more ignorant.

If anyone has a good rec for an e-reader, let me know. I’m looking hard at the Kindle Scribe.
