How is it that GT fired Gailey for winning 7-8 games a year yet CPJ can do the exact same thing with a boring offense and zero excitement around the program and nobody is talking about him getting the axe?

I thought there were some pretty big rumblings going on down there. I would think he has to be on the hot seat. Whenever he eventually does leave or get fired, the next guy is going to have to be magical to get the level of player they need down there to run anything other than the option.

In six seasons, Gailey won more than 7 games just once...

PJ has won eight or more on three different occasions.
That's really the only difference

GT used to go OOC to play the likes of Auburn, Tenn, ND. Now it is teams like Middle Tenn, Elon, Ala A&M.

made some unbelievably poor decisions as it pertains to coaching contracts which subsequently placed the school in the bit of a bind and has limited some of the options the school might otherwise have considered.

Our administration is very hostile to football, and making academic exceptions. To win at Tech, you need total buy-in from the guys that run the place, and we just don't have it. Narrow curriculum, everyone has to take a calculus class, not enough academic support, not enough recruiting exceptions....And on top of all of that, we have a coach that runs a system that doesn't even allow us to recruit the athletes we can get into the school...

True, but 2 of those were with Gailey's players...

Since Gailey's guys moved on, we've gone 6-7, 8-5, 7-7 and 7-6. In the last 4 years, our cumulative record against VT/Miami/Clemson/UGA is 1-15. CPJ is on a 5-game losing streak to UGA and he's 1-5 in bowls.
Gailey was mediocre and we eventually fired him. CPJ is not getting the job done and I think he'll have 2 more years before he's gone.

he and his GT buddies really don't care that much. They are into the tailgating (if you can call drinking Scotch and smoking cigars tailgating). They are pretty happy with winning 7-8 games and making middling bowls. They hate losing to Clemson, but losing to UGA is expected by them at this point. I feel most of their alumni are similar.

He won't be fired this year because his buyout is too expensive. Same for next year most likely. I think he's gone after 2015. If I were king of the world, he'd be gone right now.

After that, no one cares what you do. All expectations go out the window. As a coach, you can stay as long as you want.

He can't recruit there. They consistently battle with Elon and Ga Southern for recruits. No way to win consistently in a major conference with sub par athletes

PJ is 28-25 after a 20-7 start. 1-8 bowl record. An athletic defense with more than a few days to prepare for the GT offense, or has played against it a few times, can slow it down, like what FSU is going to do to Auburn's, which is similar but looks totally different.
