I was rummaging through some old attic stuff this weekend and found this stuck in a book, looking as new as the day it was printed.
Cost for a semester at Clemson in 1985 including Johnstone housing and 5-day meal plan (includes $20 worth of parking tickets).
How about that in-state cost of tuition....nice.

$1,761 in 1985.
$1 in 1985 is $2.90 today (according to the internet).
So 1 year in 1985 was $3,522.
Multiple $3,522 X 2.9 = $10,213.
That's what 1 yr at CU should cost today, but it isn't $10,213. It's $30,000+

believe the shape of the buildings that were there in the mid 80's.
The dorms didn't even have outdoor fireplaces, and had formic countertops.
It was like living in a cave.

dollar over time, it's "what can we charge the kids who want to get a degree from the school that RH Tig graduated from". Sure things like good football, a pretty campus, and a charming small-town vibe all help a little but in the end, the kids want to follow in the footsteps of greatness.

There's no reason to send the band to away games anymore.

We should just send a DJ and a laptop on a Greyhound bus to away games, and put the savings toward NIL for buying players. Or, a second sliding board in the football operations center. I'm good with either.

and at $3.35/hr minimum wage as a summer worker on a golf course, that $20 was a whole day's work. Or 4 umpire little league ballgames at $5/game (which I did also during the summer).
