Not going to include Venables since he’s in the GOAT conversation for the best DC of all time. For the longest IMO, it was Dan Brooks. Matt Luke….enough said.

don't get me wrong

I do believe that Dabo promoting Brad Scott to Associate Athletic Director was just as important as Dabo hiring him in 1999

but i still don't think that would have happened if Dabo didn't first promote him to Offensive Coordinator in 2001

Lemme guess, it was the players. You can trot good players out there and it doesn’t matter what you call. LOL.

Yep, it was the players. He left as the talent was done and Streeter got hosed with zip for an OL and zip for a QB. TE would have tanked just like Streeter did with the dead man’s hand he got stuck with.

2020, without Scott, was the most productive offense in Clemson history.

Can’t say that Scott was the brains behind the offense. There’s really no proof of that whatsoever.

I agree, Streeter got kind of a raw deal having to work with a mediocre QB in DJ. It’s been shown no matter where he went, the offenses were limited by him. His ceiling was reached at Clemson and he wasn’t anywhere near elite or even great. That’s the key to today’s game - need an elite or great QB.

Thats ignorant bro. No team, regardless of talent, succeeds

without great coaching. That’s been proven over and over and over again. You can’t just trot players out there and win games. That’s just silly.

Once Chad’s “hurry up” was outlawed, he was average at best. I’ll take Riley and Scelliott all day long over the rambling man.

Tony did WAY better than Chad. He was innovative but couldnt get over the hump.***

The combo of Elliott and Jeff Scott was magic. Tony’s analysis and Jeff’s feel for the game were very complimentary. Big fall off when it was Elliott alone IMO

Scott was gone. It was Tony’s only year alone. We set offensive records so obviously the Scott departure didn’t slow down Elliott.

Tony was also at Clemson in 2021, when we fielded one of the worst offenses I’ve ever seen. They didn’t crack 20 points against a FBS team until Halloween.

There wasnt an OC in the country that could create an elite offense

with DJ at the helm.

The QB is the most important position on the field. Without a good one you’re not going to have a good offense regardless of who calls plays. Execution by the QB wasn’t there. Same play caller, different QB.

Chad Morris might of saved Dabo's job. He did a quick huge turnaround for the offense.

I do think PorkChop is a Rainman of defensive analysis and scheme, but the guy couldn't coach. I do think his brains and analysis were a big reason why we think BV is the GOAT. It will be interesting to see how OU's defense does this year b/c I think the last time they were good on defense was when BV was there under Stoops.

But now BV is the HC and even though I guarantee he leans more over to the defensive side of the field during practice, I don't think the genius of PorkChop will be able to be seen on the field. What I am saying is I think they were the perfect pair.

I still crack up everytime I see PorkChop in an interview.... he is so scared of the camera. There is no way that man exudes confidence with a high school kid in their living room unless maybe they are breaking down film. He is so awkward as a public speaker.

Any list without Dan Brooks is invalid. I clearly said BV wasn’t in this conversation. It amazes me how time goes by people forget Dan by god the best D-line coach in the history of college football Brooks is forgotten.
