My first game in DV, we sent the Deacs back to Winston Salem with an 82-24 loss. And it could have been worse, a lot worse, but Danny wasn't the kind of coach to run up a score on an undermanned team. He had guys playing by the end of the game who didn't even have names on their jerseys.

But the first I can cleanly remember was WF in 81. Grew up going to the games and I know I was there years earlier, but the first game I can really remember who we played and when was the big blowout.
Haven't scored more points in a single game since

Can't remember which game but I was about three years old and my Dad told me a Tiger was prowling the stadium. I was so scared I started crying and my Mom had to take me back to the tailgate. That is still the only game I have left before it was over including the Bowl game who shall not be named.

1977 ND game
Mar 5, 2013, 6:02 PM

17-0 til late in the second half and Montana brought them back to a 21-17 lead and win over the Tigers....crushed my 9 year old heart but started a passion for the Tigers that still rages...my Pop, a life long ND fan, got us down on the field where a lot of ND players were still caught up in the crowd...they had an All-American TE named Ken McAfee who went on to SF in the NFL and my father loved that guy...we found him on the field and my father congratulated him on the win...he looked at me in my #99 Clemson jersey, smiled, and told my father something to the effect of, "sir, i've never been hit like that in my career. Clemson's defense, and that little #98 (DE Mark Heniford/198 pounds of wild dog) hit me all day on every play....they are going to be really good very soon."....that game made my Pop a closet Clemson fan the rest of his life....he used to tell me, "look at that defense...8 Orange hats on the #### ball on every play...that's how you play defense, son."

home that year, six away. One of the great things about home games in those years was watching the kids sliding down the hills on cardboard, especially when some would take big tumbles. You could hear them yelling throughout the Valley! Also, the colors used then were orange and dark navy blue, and the team wore a lot of white on white with orange helmets with a Block C.

NCS had "White Shoes" Defense & ranked 7th in nation ( I think ). Tigers came down 'The HILL' wearing Orange Shoes". Players like Wayne Mass, Harry Olshiski, Buddy Gore, Ray Yaurger, Bobby Addison, Charlie Waters...Clemson won something like 10-7. God, I loved Frank Howard. That was my 1st time on the Clemson campus. Five years later, I received my BS. I know it is not legal, but when I die I want my ashes spread over Clemson at a very high altitude!!!

1977 Notre Dame
Mar 6, 2013, 10:54 AM
|
|
November 12, 1977 when a pair of top 15 football teams met in Clemson's Death Valley. A fifth-ranked Notre Dame football team led by Joe Montana, defeated a 15th-ranked Clemson team led by Steve Fuller, 21-17. Notre Dame went on to win the National Championship. Thirty-six players in that game went on to play in the NFL.

The first one I really remember was legendary

1981, Halloween massacre of Wake Forest. I sat in the upperdeck, barely 10 years old. My friend from school and I sat on the front row of the 50 yard line in the north stands. After the game, we actually got to meet William Perry.
I'll never forget that game.

My late father, class of 1940 and who infused orange blood into my veins, allowed me to review his 1937-1940 TAPS at a very early age. I was fascinated by the 1939 team's success and the Cotton Bowl victory over Boston College. Dad's roommate at Clemson for 2 years was Banks McFadden, so it was pre-destined that I would grow up a Clemson man.
Dad took me to The Valley for the first time on October 20, 1962 to see the Tigers challenge the Duke Blue Devils, who were ranked in the Top 10 at the time and led by the multi-talented Jay Wilkenson, son of legendary Oklahoma coach Bud Wilkinson. We lost 16-0 that day, but the memories will remain with me forever. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!

Mine was 2004 GT on 9/11/2004. My gf at the time and I left Greenwood about 1pm for the 8pm game thinking it would take a few hours to get there because we didn't know any better. We got there around 2:30 or 3:00pm with no intention of tailgating and it was a hot as hell.
Ended up walking around campus not having a clue where we were going. Found our way to the Hardees and after finally getting a table, we didn't move until around 7. THE hottest day at any game I've been too.
Of course the game didn't end well with us botching a punt snap with less than a minute to go and GT scoring with 12 seconds left to take the lead.

We weren't married yet. I showed her what gameday at Clemson is all about. She was hooked. Even our stupid loss didn't deter her enthusiasm, so I married her.

2003. sitting in the nosebleeds and hot as h3ll.....then you noobs ran out of liquids and ice "before" halftime was over. the outcome made it bearable. nice stadium that is even more impressive since the addition of the north endzone i might add.

1982 BC 17-17 Tie

If I remember correctly, Tigers were winning late and Doug Flutie brought BC back to tie the game. Nightmarish flashbacks when Matt Ryan did the same for the W many years later!!!!
