Blackwell Named Recruiting Coordinator

by -

Clemson, SC-Head Coach Tommy Bowden has announced that linebackers

coach David Blackwell, will serve as Clemson's recruiting

coordinator. Blackwell joined the Clemson staff in January when he

replaced Rodney Allison, who left Clemson to become the head coach at

UT Chattanooga. Blackwell takes over the recruiting coordinator

vacancy that was created earlier this week when Rick Stockstill

resigned to become the offensive coordinator at East Carolina.

Blackwell, 31, had been with the Pittsburgh program each of

the last three years under Head Coach Walt Harris. Prior to that he

was an assistant coach at Illinois State for four years. He served

as the recruiting coordinator for four years for that program.

"David has experience in this capacity," said Bowden. "He knows the

area, knows the coaches and has handled this responsibility from an

administrative standpoint."

Bowden said Friday he continues to evaluate candidates for a

replacement for Stockstill's job as wide receivers coach. Until a

replacement is hired, Bowden will coach the position. He was a wide

receiver as a player at West Virginia and coached the position at 10

years as an assistant at Alabama, Kentucky and Auburn.
