Swinney on "unbelievable" fan support and those impacted by Hurricane Florence

by -

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said after Clemson's 38-7 win over Georgia Southern that he thought there might be lackluster Clemson fan support on Saturday due to Hurricane Florence.

"I didn't know to be quite honest with you. I thought we would have a pretty average crowd for Clemson standards today," Swinney said. "Just because of the chaotic week. Is the game going to be played? Moving the game (up three hours) and okay we need you gone two hours after the game and all the other stuff we are dealing with. I really didn't know what to expect. The place was almost full. It's just awesome."

Swinney even had a message for his players after the game on the fan support.

“Unbelievable (fan support). I told our players after the game just how fortunate we are to be at a place like Clemson," Swinney said. "I appreciate our fans so much."

Swinney also took some time to address those suffering the effects of the hurricane.

"I'm thankful the good Lord kind of calmed this thing down a little bit and it was a cat(egory) 1 when it hit not a four, but there is still a tremendous amount of devastation that a lot of people are dealing with - floods and people losing homes, people have lost their lives in cars and just total disruption in their lives. But I told our guys today hopefully we can take someone's mind off what they are dealing with and what their reality is a little bit. So be mindful of how we play and I thought our guys played well."

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in all the areas that have been really impacted by this and I hope they all know that we are thinking about them and praying for them and the good Lord will see them through this situation."
