Swinney on Etienne, Bryant post-Monday practice |
Clemson returned to practice Monday and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney gave a couple post-practice updates on his radio call-in show.
Swinney said earlier Monday that Bryant (concussion; ankle) would not be participating in practice, but did offer on his show that Bryant "was out running today and moving around really well." Clemson freshman running back Travis Etienne (hamstring) was moving "pretty good" at practice as well, Swinney said. For Etienne, who ranks seventh nationally in yards per carry (8.75), Swinney says they have to involve him more, but the freshman has to continue to develop. "Everybody sees those (big) plays," Swinney said, "and we've got to continue to get him the ball. We've got to get him the ball more. We've just got to him to come along a little more in bigger picture things. And he will. Some of it you just have to take your lumps along the way and grow through some experience. "There's no question that he's really a special player. Good to see (Tavien) Feaster with another big run (Friday). I think we're really starting to develop something special in that backfield. It will be a big part moving forward." Swinney agreed with a caller later that the rotation of skill players should pare down as the season goes on. "The season is a part of your separation evaluation if you will," Swinney said. "Those two guys have definitely stood out. They've got explosiveness and have taken advantage of their opportunities. Not that other guys won't get some chances, but I think it's imperative that we get those playmakers more opportunities and more touches."
