Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was named Sporting News' National Coach of the Year as he has led his young team to an impressive 13-0 record and a current participant in the inaugural four-team College Football Playoff.

"Swinney is Sporting News' Coach of the Year for more than just the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, or the three big wins (Notre Dame, FSU, North Carolina) that are as good as any other resume in the nation," the website said. "It’s about 2015, but getting there is the long, impressive process of building the program and adjusting to change."

Swinney has had a myriad of coaching awards this season including winning the prestigious Home Depot Coach of the Year Award.
