Clemson to suspend open container laws if Tigers reach title game

by - Assoc. Editor -

Can Clemson make it back to the National Championship game for the third straight season?

If so, let the joyous drinking commence as the City of Clemson approved a downtown 'National Championship Viewing Event Festival' with large viewing screens and suspended open container laws at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8.

d. Consider approval of a Downtown National Championship Viewing Event Festival and suspending open container laws for Downtown Clemson on January 8, 2018 (starting at 6:00p.m.), which shall be conditional upon Clemson Tigers participation in the National Championship football game – Mayor J.C. Cook

Patrons that want to drink downtown will have to purchase drinks from restaurants or bars downtown on College Avenue. You can't just bring outside drinks or a keg downtown and start your own party.

Last year, Clemson held a similar event and there were no safety issues from the party.

None of this debauchery can happen if the Tigers fail to get past a tough Alabama squad.
